Buses from Porto Seguro to Salvador/Rio

by Weet Online Now Jul 8, 2006 at 4:48 PM

Hi,

how long does it take by bus to link Porto Seguro to Salvador and to Rio de Janeiro? What cities would be nice places to stop on the way? Are there direct buses to/from Caraiva?

Thanks in advance,
Julien

From Salvador to Porto Seguro, a good idea is the overnight bus (leito or semi-leito) which is pretty comfortable for sleeping (has a foot rest and seats that fully recline). It leaves from the rodoviaria about 8:30p.m. and arrives about 7a.m., with a couple of stops during the night. It's about R$90 one way. Usually your hotel/pousada/hostel can call for reservations (the bus is usually full) and arrange to have the ticket delivered for an extra R$3 so you don't have to waste time going to the bus station twice.

I've always gone to the beach by car with a friend who lives nearby, so I don't know the buses. But here's some bus info for Caraiva that I found in Portuguese:
Como Chegar de ônibus (how to arrive by bus):
    Arraial D'Ajuda - Trancoso - Caraíva
    Horários: 08:00 e 15:00 h (diariamente=daily)
    Viação Águia Azul - te.: (73) 3875 1170
Caraiva's about 70km from Porto Seguro. You can get across the river to Arraial D'Ajuda from Porto Seguro by "balsa" (car ferry).
