    • Change flight

      Brasília May 26, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Good night! Bought a ticket to the U.S. Arways Miami with a connection in Charlotte ... But my trip will start in New York, the programming is done by starting NY to shop in Miami last, so I'll wait 4 hours to go to Miami in Charlote airport to get out there and catch a flight to New York the night ... I will arrive in NY and lose a whole day at the airport. I called the U.S. here in Brazil, and informed me that surely be able to change it after shipment, or in Rio de Janeiro or Charlotte. Note: I did not buy the stretch to NY yet because this question. The question is .. I hope to see if I can modify this stretch in Charlote, or buy a ticket from Miami to NY here in Brazil and I roll all day at the airport .. Has anyone done this kind of change? The value of the passage time in the U.S. is much higher? Someone please help me .. my trip is the next Friday May 31 and do not know what to do ... Thank you,

      Cape San. Augustin

      Brazil Jun 5, 2013 at 8:24 AM

Spanish navigators heading for the West Indies 500 years ago always talked about 'Cape San Agustin' as an enormously important watershed bewteen ocean currents swinging north into the Caribbean basin and south 'towards the Antarctic'. I've been trying to work out where this is. Spaniards had a settlement in Florida called St. Augustin, which is confusing, and there is nowadays a place in Venezuela called Cape S. Augustin, but not sure this is it. Think it may rather be in Brazil, was looking for it around Touros. But not successful. Can anyone help?

      Bale flocorico for kids?

Salvador da Bahia May 23, 2013 at 9:12 PM

Will be in Salvador in October and was wondering if the nightly florcorico dancing is suitable for kids? It seems like the theater is rather small, but the performance only lasts 45 minutes, all the kids in our group like music and dancing --so much I think they would want to walk around and dance!

A nice place to stay? booking in advance??

Ilha Grande May 21, 2013 at 2:37 PM

      Hi,
I am in Rio de Janeiro and would like to go to Ilha Grande next friday, the 24th of may 2013 until the 27th.
      I've been told that during weekends, it get's quite packed, and you need to book in advance;
Since it is low season now, is this still recommended?

Also: Does anybody can recommend me a place to stay? I am in my 30's, single traveller, would like to meet nice people, but not be in a place full with party-people.

      Thank you!!

Sadly, looks like I will be travelling alone as my friends all work for airlines and might not make the flights. I want to book a budget room but everywhere seems to require a minimum of 6 nights or be equally pricey for 1 night. Does anyone know if leftover rooms price down during carnival or up for desperate travellers? Anyone live in copacabana, ipenema or leblon and have spareroom to rent?

      Carnival 2014

Rio de Janeiro May 20, 2013 at 7:36 PM

We just found out that we will be in/around Rio during the start of Carnival 2014! We are just working on an itinerary for two weeks in Brazil, however things have changed since out recent discovery. Here's what we were thinking of doing:
      1/30 - Buenos Aires-Iguazu Falls
      1/31 - Iguazu - Salvador
      2/4 - Salvador - Ouro Preto(via Belo Horizonte)
      2/7-Ouro Preto-Rio
      2/10-Rio-Buzios
2/14 Buzios to GIG(late flight home)
I think getting accommodations on Rio on the dates suggested will be a nightmare! Should we go to Rio at the start of Carnival or perhaps the end of our trip 2/12-14?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

I'm working on an organic farm (really an Ecovilla and Permaculture site) outside of Buenos Aires curently. I was hoping to find a school where I can study Portuguese near Molinos do Vento as well as a place to stay there - either a homestay or nice hostal. I'm also an English professor so I was considering teaching English there and just trying to learn what I can while doing that. I'm interested being a volunteer in social and environmental programs as well. Porto Alegre looks gorgeous! Much thanks, Dylan

      Porto Alegre questions

I am thinking about leading a team of volunteers from Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for poor residents of Ilha Grande dos Marinheiros. My understanding is that Ilha Grande is close to Porto Alegre. Is that correct? How far apart are they? I know nothing about Porto Alegre, so I need as much information about what the city is like, how easy it is to get around, how safe it is, what kinds of things there are to do, and whether there is anything nearby where we could take day trips (cultural sites, archeological sites, beaches, museums, beautiful nature, etc). Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I currently hold a Bachelor of Science degree from a Uni in Canada(my home country). I would like to know how easy is it to find a job in Porto Alegre, possibly with an accounting firm or maybe transferring offices with KPMG (if that is possible)or even with a multinational organization. I can speak English, French and German and am in the process of learning Portuguese. Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Christian
