I am thinking about leading a team of volunteers from Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for poor residents of Ilha Grande dos Marinheiros. My understanding is that Ilha Grande is close to Porto Alegre. Is that correct? How far apart are they? I know nothing about Porto Alegre, so I need as much information about what the city is like, how easy it is to get around, how safe it is, what kinds of things there are to do, and whether there is anything nearby where we could take day trips (cultural sites, archeological sites, beaches, museums, beautiful nature, etc). Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Acorn, I am going to Porto Alegre for the first time next week. I will let you know what I find. But the reason I write is that I would be interested in helping with the habitat for humanity down there. Sounds like fun. Please keep me posted. Don Griffiths Santa Cruz Ca. US
