      Albufeira old town flooded?

      Portugal Nov 3, 2015 at 3:02 AM

This is for information. Search internet for Albufeira flood 1st November 2015 for more.

On the afternoon of Sunday 1st November the lower part of old town area of Albufeira was hit by a flash flood following hours of torrential rain. Two metres of mud, stone and water entered the lowest part of town with great force. Considerable damage was caused. It will be some time before anything like normality is restored.

Thee pictures I took on Monday morning 2nd November -

It is only this part of town that is affected.

    • Transponders & Toll Roads

      Portugal Oct 29, 2015 at 6:17 AM

We will be hiring a car via Enterprise at Faro Airport and plan to use the toll roads frequently i.e. visiting Lisbon & Seville etc. Having checked out the official website I am left slightly confused as to how the system exactly works. Do I have to pre-pay the rental company in advance with a guess of how much tolls I am liable to use or can I settle the tolls I have used at a later date once the exact amount is known and charged to the rental company. The rental company will already have my credit card details on file - this happened with tolls in the USA. Hoping that someone who has first hand knowledge can answer this question please

Suggested ratio of days to spend in Lisbon, Madrid & Barcelona

      Lisbon Nov 3, 2015 at 10:15 AM

We are planning a trip in November. The total duration will be approx 10, 14 or 16 days depending on availability of return flights. We will be flying from Lisbon to Madrid. Travel between Madrid & Barcelona unknown at this stage. We depart Barcelona.

      Please suggest:
      1) How long we should spend in each city and surrounds & why (ratio or exact # days)?

Given the number of days in each city:
      1) how many days should be spent in the actual cities themselves?

      2) how many days should be allocated to day trips out the city ?

      - provide order of (out-of-city) places/destinations that can be visited in one day & how much time should be allocated for each
      - provide service provider / carrier type that will get us from point A, to B to point C etc

      3) how many nights (if any) should be allocated to out of city visits?
      - Please provide names places/towns

Any other tips & helpful suggestions will be appreciated

      Thank You

      How many days?

      Lisbon Nov 1, 2015 at 12:14 PM

How many days is enough to see Lisbon. And very important to us a couple of days just being there enjoying the atmosphere.
We are thinking 5 days? Or do we need more time?

    • Do you get Pampers (Swaddlers) in Porto?

by abhi22 Online Now Jun 5, 2013 at 9:31 PM

We are going to travel with our baby to Porto soon. Was wondering if you get Pampers (for wt range involving baby around 8 kg), so I don't have to carry tons of them. We are going to be there for 10 days, so don't want to fill our bags with diapers

    • Wine Tours out of Porto

by DebEricson Online Now Jan 18, 2011 at 7:22 AM

My husband and I are going to be in Porto for a week in early May 2011 and would love to do a personalised tour of some of the wineries in the countryside. Alternatively a 3-4 night cruise where we get to visit some wineries as well would be great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • so much to see and so little time

by noquay Online Now May 17, 2008 at 9:16 AM

Thanks to those who responded to my first inquiry about going north or south. My colleague and I are heading north however I need some advice about the suggested iternerary below.
Arrive in Lisbon (Sat.) and take train to Coimbra, stay at Hotel Astoria.
Next day train up to Porto, find a day boat trip to Pinhao, try to stay at Vintage House Question: In case they are booked, are there other alternatives?
Take riverside train back to Porto on Monday (stay one night) Question: Should we try to make it up to the Minho area? We have to be back in Lisbon Tuesday night.
Your trusted travel advice is much appreciated.
