Which side of river to stay?

by DallasNyer Online Now Mar 27, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Was thinking in Bairro Alto on River but now am thinking the other side?
Obviously we'll be walking around tons but also want to get to the Matasinhos for dinner or lunch at some point.
Only have 2-1/2 days.
Thanks.

It's better to stay in the side of Porto not Gaia, because if you are walking we have most of the things closer. To Matosinhos you can take the subway blue line, the last train departs at 1h00.

    Hi.

On Porto's side you'll get closer to most of the sightseeings, which is better for walking and feeling the city.

At Gaia's side, you have the "Vinho do Porto" buildings that you can visit, go on an excursion and even taste that famous wine!

    Have a good trip,
    Karl

I agree that the Porto side is the best.
Apart from all the portwine houses you have most things going on on the other side of the river.

And Matosinhos is pretty much in the middle of nowhere in terms of sights so it's better to go out there by public transport for your dinner and mabye return by taxi.

    Porto. I don't think it's even debatable.

I agree with Karl (and most others) stay on the Porto side. It is an easy walk across the bridge to Gaia, Although if you have trouble with walking up and down hills and just want to spend the time eating and drinking port, the Gaia is the place to be. Enjoy, Karl
