Cycling in Portland

by Cveilleux Online Now Mar 25, 2013 at 2:05 PM

We are going on an organized cycling tour the 3rd week of June, but will arrive 3 days before the trip begins. We will be bringing our bicycles and will be staying in a B&B in Southeast Portland. Which trails are the best ones to go on?

This depends entirely on what you are looking for. I really wouldn't call any of our trails that great as they are near busy, noisy roads. If you have the means to get all the way out there the best one in the area is the Banks - Vernonia trail.

A lot of people like the Springwater trail, but that has a lot of busy road crossings. The section from SE Burnside and OMSI to SE Tacoma is nice as it runs along the river - it is only a 4 mile trail segment though. Its not quite as nice east of about 42nd or so.

The Marine Drive trail has nice views on a clear day, but it is next to a horribly busy road (Marine Drive) and due to the traffic noise I tend to stay away from it.
