    • Area with pubs and restaurants

Cape Town May 18, 2015 at 9:08 PM

We are a couple in our 50s and 60s moving long term to Cape Town from Australia. We want to rent an apartment within walking distance to pubs and restaurants and a supermarket. Probably looking at a 2 bedroom for around R22k a month......
Someone mentioned Big Bay as an option but that seems to be rather remote or isn't it? The city bowl was recommended but isn't that too noisy for us older folk?
Are there any such areas in Cape Town?

    • re entry query

South Africa May 24, 2015 at 12:28 AM

      Hi,

•I am a UK citizen that travelled from the UK to Cape Town from 17 April 2015 - 04 May 2015
•On arrival I received a Visitors Permit that would be due to expire on 16 July 2015
      •On leaving I received a Departure Stamp of 4 May 2015
      •I returned to the UK

I was hoping to return to Cape Town to spend 6 weeks with friends from 15 June 2015 - 29 July 2015.
I am looking for confirmation on whether this is possible. My question is, would I gain a new Visitors Permit on entry to Cape Town or would I still be entered under my old Visitors Permit which would require me to leave on 16 July 2015? I will be entering from the UK once again

I have contacted home affairs but had a mixture of responses n I am just looking for some sort of clarification. Had anybody been in the same situation?

Would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

We have 11-12 days to travel between Port Elizabeth and Capetown, Dec 14 to 25 or 26. It is myself, my wife, and our six-year-old boy. We are looking for suggestions for an affordable itinerary that will be fun for all.
We definitely want to do a safari, probably Addo and maybe others? See penguins. See whales if possible. Maybe spend some time on the beach.
      Thoughts? Suggestions?
P.S. if you're not staying in a park like Addo, do you have to make reservations to visit?
      Thanks for any help.

by webvoice Online Now Sep 20, 2012 at 11:00 PM

I've been accepted to study at Nelson Mandela University, PE for 2013 and will be bringing my son who is in the 5th grade. I am looking for suitable and safe neighborhoods we could live in. My son's father is very concerned about crime and racism...is it really THAT bad in PE? I've read that there is crime and also that PE is known as the "Friendly City." Any information you can give me for perspective that I can share with him would be great. Thank you so much for your help.

by morgandy Online Now Jan 1, 2012 at 9:43 AM

      Folks,

I am having an impossible time trying to find a town and hotel for a quick night stay between PE and Durban. Umtata seems as if it might be the best, but I can't find a list of hotels. I've heard there are many, but, I need feedback as to whether Umtata would be suitable mid-way point, and any site you can direct me to with a comprehensive list of hotels. OR, if you have suggestions, I would so appreciate it.

      Thanks greatly...

Department stores have NOTHING as they have started to unpack their winter range. Please suggest some stores in PE that might be able to help - the kids want to swim desperately and have nothing to wear!

    • Garden Route - overnight stops?

by missesg Online Now Feb 28, 2007 at 3:43 AM

      Hello
yes, me again :-D. Ok, so still pondering what to do when we get to PE, but have got a few weeks to figuer that one out still, but I am also struggling with our stopover locations as we drive from Cape Town to PE.
I almost know the guidebook off by heart, and I've looked on countles websites, but there are so many fab places to stop, but we can only make 3 stopovers, and one of those will definately be Hermanus/Gansbaai. So, the other two... Knysna looks lovely, but it looks a long drive from Hermanus to Knysna.
Am I right in guessing it will take between 3-4 hours to drive from Knysna to PE? And, where do you recommend we make our other stoppover?
I'm sorry for all the questions - the more I try and research it myself using the guide books, the moer confused I get.
      thanks

      Hi,
My husband & I will be spending one night in Port Elizabeth, in early May, after driving along the Garden Route from Cape Town, before catching a flight to Johannesburg.
We'll be arriving sometime in the afternoon, and our flight will be the following afternoon, so looking for somewhere not too far from the airport (although we will have a car, so maybe up to half hour drive?) - pref. by the coast.
Unfortunately, dont think we will we have much time to explore Port Elizabeth itself on this occasion, but somewhere with a nice restaurant as well would be good.
Any area, or hotel recommendations much appreciated :-)
