Folks, I am having an impossible time trying to find a town and hotel for a quick night stay between PE and Durban. Umtata seems as if it might be the best, but I can't find a list of hotels. I've heard there are many, but, I need feedback as to whether Umtata would be suitable mid-way point, and any site you can direct me to with a comprehensive list of hotels. OR, if you have suggestions, I would so appreciate it. Thanks greatly...
Umtata is a run down town. Are you trying to backtrack your drive by going north again? Anyway, as I said to you on the Mozambique forum, we need to know more about you before we can give decent advice.

An "hotel" that works for us is http://www.umngazi.co.za/, but that may not qualify as an hotel in your book. That is not too far from Coffee Bay, which you have already discovered, but it has a completely different feel. The only place in Coffee Bay where we would stay is http://www.oceanview.co.za/ (and at pinch its sister coffeebayhotel.co.za/index.h..., but a lot of backpackers head for Bomvu & Coffee Shack for the drumming and marijuana. As I said, I really don't know what you are looking for . . . . .

If you are making Port Elizabeth the turning around point in your journey, I think that is a huge mistake. Just after PE is the best part - rather drive through to Cape Town and fly the rest from there.
