Hi guys--I'm looking for some creativity from my VT friends who know Poland and how to get around! I have a business trip coming up at the end of September in Warsaw, and need to arrive in Warsaw on a Sunday night. I have to fly to Poland via London's Heathrow airport. Having been to Warsaw several times before, but nowhere else in Poland, I'd like to make a one-day stop in some other Polish city BEFORE I continue on to Warsaw. I thought of flying to Krakow first on Saturday and then taking a train to Warsaw the next day, but unfortunately there are no direct flights from Heathrow to Krakow. So that plan won't work. Where else can I go in Poland that (1) has a direct flight from Heathrow, (2) would be a nice place to spend a day, and (3) has reasonable-length train or bus connections to Warsaw on a Sunday afternoon? I really have no idea, but I'm sure someone does!
Hi! Look maybe there are direct flights to Poznan, Gdansk, Wroclaw or Szczecin. All these cities are worth a visit. If no you can fly to Warsaw and do day trip by train to Lublin or Torun for example. :)

Rats. I just checked all four cities you mentioned and none of them had flights from Heathrow. Maybe I can do the day trip instead--that's a good idea. Thanks!

Hi, Direct flight from LHR BA www.ba.com or LOT www.lot.com, send me email if you wish to get cheap rates on LOT. Chris

Thanks, but BA only flies to Warsaw from LHR. I don't want to go to Warsaw. I haven't seen Lot flights from LHR to other cities--do any exist?

nope, you have to take LOT and change in Warsaw. you can go to Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, Szczecin, Zielona Gora, Katowice, Lodz, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Rzeszow. I think Krakow/Wroclaw/Gdnask is the best choice.

That's what I was afraid of. I'm already flying from the US to London, then London-Warsaw, so I definitely don't want to take yet another connecting flight. I am going to have to figure out some good day trip that I can do from Warsaw, or else just forget about the whole thing. Any suggestions?

You can get another airlines: Wizzair. But it's from London- Luton and it gets to Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan and Warsaw. I recommend you visiting Gdansk- it's really beautifull city! Then you can get direct train to Warsaw (you'll find it here: rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe...? ). Travel takes a little above 4 hours.

Fast train to Krakow takes 2 hours 40 minutes (one way). It costs about 80 zl (20 EUR) - one way. But in the weekend there is a special offer - you pay 99 zl and can go every where (e.g. to Krakow and back). Nearer Warsaw is Torun - also beautiful, but - unfortunately the train connections is much worse and takes almost the same time like to Krakow (see my pages about both of the city or don't hesitate to ask for more via e-mail). Small but nice place, popular between tourists and artists is Kazimierz Dolny, not so far from Lublin. If all those proposition are for you too far from Warsaw, try Pultusk: http://pultusk.pl/side.php?id=5

Thanks very much, Skeptic-jr! I had an idea to go to Lublin since it seems like a cool place, and pretty close to Warsaw--although when I looked at the train times it seemed to take quite a while to get there. I'll keep researching!
