Hi there We are 2 Canadian families travelling through Croatia in July. We are wondering how far it would be to travel from Split (actually we are staying in Pisak for one week) to Plitvice lakes. We were thinking of travelling early in the morning seeing the lakes and then returning to Pisak. Is that too far for a day trip? We are then thinking about travelling up to Pula for 3 days and then ferry to Venice where we are flying out. We are travelling 4 adults and 6 kids. Can you also tell me where we should travel to while in Split and then Pula? We wanted to stay one night in Plitvice but it looks like we will be need to stay a minimum of 3 nights in Pula. It is hard to find places to stay because of how many we are. Please help us plan a terrific holiday in Croatia!!! Thank you,
I think it is too far for one day as the laked and park need at least a day to see. It is about 250kms from Piska to the park and it would take about 4.5 hours. It would work if you could stay overnight? Hope this helps

oops I meant Pisak so all the earlier info is still correct.

Hi, I recommend you stay overnight as the park is huge, 16 lakes and 100 waterfalls, there is the upper and lower sections of the park and you would need several days to see the lot. I am not suggesting you have to spend 2 days in the park to appreciate it. We had a full day there and saw much, I think a full day is minimum to do it justice. Have a look at my VT page and you will appreciate what I am saying. It is a World Heritage Listed place. Good Luck Mike

Hope you are still open for replies My advice would be to travel to Plitvice so that you arrive in the afternoon, say 4pm. You used to be able to buy a two day ticket for the lakes but it does not look like you can now but it may still be worth it. You could then go around the lower lakes and waterfalls on the first evening and the upper lakes the next day. Splitting your visit like this may be better for the children in your party and I expect you would be able to see all of the lake area by 3pm on the second day and then set off for Pula. On day two you could get into the lake area early and beat the crowds of day trippers. Try adriatica.net/plitvice/plitv... for private accommodation in and around the lakes area but as ever book as soon as possible.
