    • Area with pubs and restaurants

Cape Town May 18, 2015 at 9:08 PM

We are a couple in our 50s and 60s moving long term to Cape Town from Australia. We want to rent an apartment within walking distance to pubs and restaurants and a supermarket. Probably looking at a 2 bedroom for around R22k a month......
Someone mentioned Big Bay as an option but that seems to be rather remote or isn't it? The city bowl was recommended but isn't that too noisy for us older folk?
Are there any such areas in Cape Town?

    • re entry query

South Africa May 24, 2015 at 12:28 AM

      Hi,

•I am a UK citizen that travelled from the UK to Cape Town from 17 April 2015 - 04 May 2015
•On arrival I received a Visitors Permit that would be due to expire on 16 July 2015
      •On leaving I received a Departure Stamp of 4 May 2015
      •I returned to the UK

I was hoping to return to Cape Town to spend 6 weeks with friends from 15 June 2015 - 29 July 2015.
I am looking for confirmation on whether this is possible. My question is, would I gain a new Visitors Permit on entry to Cape Town or would I still be entered under my old Visitors Permit which would require me to leave on 16 July 2015? I will be entering from the UK once again

I have contacted home affairs but had a mixture of responses n I am just looking for some sort of clarification. Had anybody been in the same situation?

Would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

    • Cape Town to Plett

by MalH Online Now Aug 29, 2014 at 10:24 AM

We are finalising our plans for Feb/March and think we'll stop 2 nights on the way. Would Hermanus be the best choice? Also quite like the look of the Plett Game Reserve, maybe stay one night and then 4 or 5 in Plett itself or Knysna. Any recommendations? Is access to the GR OK for rental cars? We then have 4 days spare before 2 nights booked at Franschhoek, any ideas for us to mull over?

What is the best way to arrange airport transfers to Pletterberg Bay? Read that the airport in George is closed so it may have to be from Port Elizabeth. Please advise. Thanls!.

by percent81 Online Now Dec 11, 2012 at 8:53 AM

      Hi,
I was recently in Plett, albeit for 2 nights only, but noticed a large number of people in bars etc drinking pink (fizz?) in a bottle. Please can someone let me know the name of this stuff as I think it was local and would like to try and source some as a gift.
      Thanks!!!

    • family looking for accommodation

by jagger8 Online Now Oct 13, 2006 at 6:33 AM

Hello we are a family of 7 living abroad that used to live in plett. We are coming home for the december holidays (mad, i know), and are finding it difficult getting accommodation. There are no young children (the youngest one is 18), and our budget is around R2000 per night. We haven't been back in nearly 7 years so any help would be greatly appreciated. We would preferably like to be near the water too!

      Thankyou.

      Where to Stay?

by TRimer Online Now Apr 29, 2006 at 1:09 PM

My fiance and I are looking to stay 1 night in Plett. I have checked out a lot of websites and it is very difficult to tell which one to choose. I would like to stay close to the water. All of the reviews I have read either say the hotel looks tired (re: Plett Hotel) or the reviewer's comments only talk about the wonderful breakfast served. Help!

    • Plettenberg Bay in August?

by Scatterling Online Now Aug 29, 2004 at 12:47 PM

I am considering a trip to SA in August 2005 spending a week in Plett with a few days in Cape Town before and after. I know that's the off season but we can't get away from the UK at any other time It's 35 years since I was last in Plett. Apart from the beach will there be much for me, my wife and teenage daughter and son to do/see there in August - i.e. shops, restaurants, local attractions etc? Also can we expect much rain at that time of the year? Thanks
