my wife has the best taste in everything!!!!!! and has found the Rosewood Mayakoba......My wallet isn't laughing..... are there any equivalent hotels for less or is this really going to hurt:(
We will be going next November as her brother is getting married, we are a child less couple so do not want to stay at a hotel that is over run with children hence we are not staying at the same hotel as her brother.
I have noticed that the majority of rooms in our price range at the Rosewood over look the lagoon, so is there a
chance of mosquito problem as we do not want the holiday spoilt by bites as they really go for me
if i leave my car at a parking lot near the cozumel ferry, is there a charge and if so, how much?
It is our silver wedding anniversary when we are in Playa del carmen, any tips/ideas on good places for a romantic night?
Should i take Paso's or Dollars or mixture of both?
My long term boyfriend & I are going out of the country for the first time to Playa Del Carmen(not too far from the downtown area) in a few weeks. His Birthday is right before we leave for our trip & I would really love to do something special there to surprise him.. Does anyone have any ideas? Such as certain excursions, clubs, spas, or even something out of the ordinary? Typically I would research things months in advance, but I don't have much time left & this month is going to fly by with everything else I have got going on. Also, we can travel to the nearby areas(such as Tulum, Akumal, Cancun, etc.) if needed. And please note that while I'm into adventure.. I'm not into extreme adventure such as sky diving or swimming with sharks ;)
I really really appreciate any ideas, tips, or anything else anyone would like to throw out there. Thank you :)!!!
We're staying at the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen for reference.
We are planning to bring our mini-dashound to Playa next week and would love to hear from some members living there to get a sense of where we can and can't take the dog. We are staying at a private dog-friendly condo in town. Thanks in advance for the reply.
Does anyone know if its possible to get any deals or coupons for things to do while on our honeymoon in playa del carmen/
I am trying to get the email address for the El Tukan, tried calling but language barrier caused too much mid-understanding. Does anyone have it please?
We are going to spend two weeks in PDC and it is first time for everyone in Mexico. Going to see mayan ruins, enjoying All Inclusive hotel, beaches and pools. But for two weeks we have time to explore whatever nearby. What are Your suggestions? We have thouht e.g. Coba, Tulum, dolphin swim, Xcaret... Also, if You have recommadations to nice restaurants for lunch or dinner, beach restaurants and so on, we would like to hear. Not staying 14 days in AI ;) Thanks in advance.
Is there a forum for this resort. Having a hard time getting info. Thanks
Does anyone know of any Playa del Carmen hotels to be found that have soft, cushy American-style beds as compared with the uber-firm boardlike torture devices apparently favored by Mexicans (and Thais)? Judging from online midrange hotel pictures and a week's stay last year with relatives in their absolutely lovely Playa del Carmen home, this super-hard mattress type is the norm. (We did find that at a fantastic resort hotel on Cozumel, there are luxuriously comfy Hyatt hotel, etc.-style beds, but we don't want to spend money on a high-end resort this time.) We are soft and pampered sleepers and don't think we can take the severe mattress thing for a week this year, yet the siren song of Playa del Carmen is calling us back (to see all the stuff we didn't see last time, & do all the relaxing we didn't do last time...we hope!!). Please let me know if you can help us out with any info on this essential hotel detail, & thanks! May good travel karma be with you :)
hi, has anyone heard of the Valentin? we are planning about 5 nights in august for myhusband and I for our babymoon. I will be about 6 months pregnant at thetime. Does any one think this will be an issue? Will going to Xel ha and Tulum be ok while 6 months pregnant? Thanks!!!
Hi VTers, What's the best way to get to Playa Del Carmen from Cancun airport? We're travelling with an 8 mo old baby. Also do you recommend anything that we should do and see? What's the best place to snorkel? Chichen Itza is also on our list. We're staying in an all inclusive resort in PDC for 8 nights. Thanks!
Hello to all, We have just booked today to travel to Playa del Carmen on the 28th of April for two weeks. We have stayed in Cancun twice before so we are aware of the general requirements in Mex. We are staying at the Riu Tequila so my questions are specific to that resort. Is there wireless internet connection at this resort? or is there plug in service with a laptop? How many al la cartes are in this resort? Info states one has access to other resorts...........Do you know which ones? Can one see the Princess resorts? Price for taxi to Playa del Cammen? Would want to go to Cosumel so any info will be helpful. Thanks to all. David
Hey everyone I am going to playa on May 5 and wanted to know what the crowds are like in May. I have been to playa in Aug. and March.
in researching our upcoming visit to playa del carmen, it seems most everything is priced in US dollars. tours, hotel rooms, etc. does anyone use pesos for anything major? will my hotel accept pesos in partial or full payment of the hotel bill or require use of dollars or credit cards. normally i would get the local currency from an atm at the airport and use the leftover curency after expenses to knock down the hotel bill.
I'm heading down for 5 days with a group. We are starting at an all inclusive resort. The agency we booked through has advised us not to leave the resort for our own safety. Their reasoning being the resort has all we need. I don't mind a little pool time but I want to see some sights. maybe tulum, coba, cozumel...at least playa itself! Are they being overly concerned? What do I really need to be aware of or avoid?
i will be attending a " destination wedding " at the rosewood mayakoba next month arriving on a friday afternoon and departing sunday morning. saturday is a free day till the ceremony. i suppose i could spend the entire day sitting by the pool ( in the shade ) getting sloshed and ogling the scantily clad beauties, but was hoping for a more intellectually satisfying day. reading thru the internet, the choices seem limited. a day trip to tulum i would really enjoy, but seems a lot of travel. most of the tours seem to spend more time at lunch and selected vendors than at the ruins ( generally about 90 minutes ). are these tours worthwhile, any suggestions as to hiring a tour or an individual guide. if i stay near playa, activities seem limited to shopping on 5th avenue or visiting a monkey farm. surely there must be something more. any advices appreciated.
I am planning a 10 day trip to Cozumel in September. We'd really like to fly into Cancun, see the ruins in Tulum, stay the night on the main land and then, take the ferry to Cozumel the next day. Then, we'd take the ferry back to Playa del Carmen at the end of our visit and drive to Cancun to fly home. I want to rent a car at the Cancun airport for the entirety of the trip and return it there at the end. Is this possible? I've been reading rumors that the car ferry doesn't allow rental cars and even if it did the wait times are horrible. Would I be better off renting a car from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, an additional car in Cozumel, and then still another car from Playa del Carmen to drive the hour back to the airport? Also, is America Car Rental a good agency? Thanks for any help.
Hi, My husband and I are currently trying to decide on staying at an AI (the Dorado Seaside Suites or Dorado Royale) or simply staying in Playa at a EP hotel. We are interested in mainly a romantic time together with some nightlife. We are willing to take a bus or colectivo into PDC if the resorts are convenient to that but hate to pay for an AI if we are not going to be there for the most expensive meal of the day (dinner). We plan on taking public transportation to Tulum and hiring a guide once there. We may or may not take a trip to Chichen Itza. If anyone has stayed at either of these properties, how did you like them? If not, but you happen to know how far they are and how easy it is to get into PDC then we would love to hear from you. We will be there 3/7-3/14 and would love to meet anyone else traveling at that time for a drink!
Hello everyone. I am planning a trip de Playa del Carmen with my wife for next march. We are both young, 32. We would be staying around 7 nights. I would like to calculate how much I will spend during my stay there. I will be taking some tours, snorkeling, etc... Any hints on the cost of tours, taxis, eating out, etc? Thanks! Regards, Matias
Hello everyone. I am planning a trip to Playa del Carmen in a month (march). Has anyone heard of the Mayan Palace Resort? Is it any good? Thanks for your help! Regards Matias
Just going to Playa del Carmen next week with a 7 month old baby. Is it possible to buy swaddling clothes in Playa del Carmen? thanks....
We will be cruising into Cozumel on March 3 and will be in port from 7am-4pm - our first trip to Cozumel. Any suggestions on touristy/historical things to do either on Cozumel or Playa del Carmen. Don't know if we will have time to go to Cancun. Thx.
anyone been there recently? is there fairly good snorkeling off the beach? I will take a few excursions but want to snorkel off the beach for a few days. any comments? i leave this tuesday jan 10 2012 thanks
Anyone ever stayed at this property? Can you give some feedback about the rooms, food, watersports , pools, service, etc.
Husband and I coming to Playa mid-February for 5 nights. Have been studying several review sites, but would love some tips. Wish list: short walk to beach, shopping, restaurants, access to decent beach club, quiet enough to sleep at night. Don't want all inclusIve. Have been to Cancun several times and Cozumel once, so we are familiar w/ the Mexican experience, but have never stayed in Playa. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!!!
What area of PDC would be best suited for 6 girls ages 37-60? Don't want to be around all kids or college students but want to be close to good restaurants, shopping, bars and beach. Is it possible to get villas with private pool/beach areas for around2000 p/week during mid March? Any vacation rental sites you might suggest would be helpful.
We have heard that it is very unsafe to drive in this area, kidnappings etc. I'm wondering how true this is. We are going to arrive in Cancun next week and were wondering if we should rent a car or just take a bus and taxi. We're staying at the Grand Mayan and would like to visit the ruins etc, but really hate tours.
We will be staying in Playa Del Carmen at the Occedental Grand Xcaret in Noveber 8- 15. I cant wait tp relax and party. Is anyone going down this week ? I have been to this resort before and it is nice. The beach is the best. Count down, 14 days till the party .
