      Rosewood mayakoba

by clarkesville Online Now Jun 16, 2013 at 9:34 AM

my wife has the best taste in everything!!!!!! and has found the Rosewood Mayakoba......My wallet isn't laughing..... are there any equivalent hotels for less or is this really going to hurt:(
We will be going next November as her brother is getting married, we are a child less couple so do not want to stay at a hotel that is over run with children hence we are not staying at the same hotel as her brother.
I have noticed that the majority of rooms in our price range at the Rosewood over look the lagoon, so is there a
chance of mosquito problem as we do not want the holiday spoilt by bites as they really go for me

    • Any ideas for boyfriend's Birthday?

by lily3334 Online Now Apr 9, 2013 at 12:38 PM

My long term boyfriend & I are going out of the country for the first time to Playa Del Carmen(not too far from the downtown area) in a few weeks. His Birthday is right before we leave for our trip & I would really love to do something special there to surprise him.. Does anyone have any ideas? Such as certain excursions, clubs, spas, or even something out of the ordinary? Typically I would research things months in advance, but I don't have much time left & this month is going to fly by with everything else I have got going on. Also, we can travel to the nearby areas(such as Tulum, Akumal, Cancun, etc.) if needed. And please note that while I'm into adventure.. I'm not into extreme adventure such as sky diving or swimming with sharks ;)

I really really appreciate any ideas, tips, or anything else anyone would like to throw out there. Thank you :)!!!

We're staying at the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen for reference.

    • American-style beds info appreciated !!

by Cenote Online Now Aug 3, 2012 at 2:48 PM

Does anyone know of any Playa del Carmen hotels to be found that have soft, cushy American-style beds as compared with the uber-firm boardlike torture devices apparently favored by Mexicans (and Thais)? Judging from online midrange hotel pictures and a week's stay last year with relatives in their absolutely lovely Playa del Carmen home, this super-hard mattress type is the norm. (We did find that at a fantastic resort hotel on Cozumel, there are luxuriously comfy Hyatt hotel, etc.-style beds, but we don't want to spend money on a high-end resort this time.) We are soft and pampered sleepers and don't think we can take the severe mattress thing for a week this year, yet the siren song of Playa del Carmen is calling us back (to see all the stuff we didn't see last time, & do all the relaxing we didn't do last time...we hope!!). Please let me know if you can help us out with any info on this essential hotel detail, & thanks! May good travel karma be with you :)

What's the best place to snorkel? Chichen Itza is also on our list. We're staying in an all inclusive resort in PDC for 8 nights. Thanks!

by wharfrock Online Now Mar 22, 2012 at 2:47 PM

Hello to all, We have just booked today to travel to Playa del Carmen on the 28th of April for two weeks. We have stayed in Cancun twice before so we are aware of the general requirements in Mex. We are staying at the Riu Tequila so my questions are specific to that resort. Is there wireless internet connection at this resort? or is there plug in service with a laptop? How many al la cartes are in this resort? Info states one has access to other resorts...........Do you know which ones? Can one see the Princess resorts? Price for taxi to Playa del Cammen? Would want to go to Cosumel so any info will be helpful. Thanks to all. David

      does anyone use pesos

by nicolaitan Online Now Mar 17, 2012 at 7:12 PM

in researching our upcoming visit to playa del carmen, it seems most everything is priced in US dollars. tours, hotel rooms, etc. does anyone use pesos for anything major? will my hotel accept pesos in partial or full payment of the hotel bill or require use of dollars or credit cards. normally i would get the local currency from an atm at the airport and use the leftover curency after expenses to knock down the hotel bill.

    • How safe is playa and surrounding area

by Jen512 Online Now Feb 29, 2012 at 9:29 PM

I'm heading down for 5 days with a group. We are starting at an all inclusive resort. The agency we booked through has advised us not to leave the resort for our own safety. Their reasoning being the resort has all we need. I don't mind a little pool time but I want to see some sights. maybe tulum, coba, cozumel...at least playa itself! Are they being overly concerned? What do I really need to be aware of or avoid?

what to do in playa del carmen

by nicolaitan Online Now Feb 26, 2012 at 9:29 AM

i will be attending a " destination wedding " at the rosewood mayakoba next month arriving on a friday afternoon and departing sunday morning. saturday is a free day till the ceremony. i suppose i could spend the entire day sitting by the pool ( in the shade ) getting sloshed and ogling the scantily clad beauties, but was hoping for a more intellectually satisfying day. reading thru the internet, the choices seem limited. a day trip to tulum i would really enjoy, but seems a lot of travel. most of the tours seem to spend more time at lunch and selected vendors than at the ruins ( generally about 90 minutes ). are these tours worthwhile, any suggestions as to hiring a tour or an individual guide. if i stay near playa, activities seem limited to shopping on 5th avenue or visiting a monkey farm. surely there must be something more. any advices appreciated.

How do I get my rental car from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel and back again?

by Nikki65 Online Now Feb 10, 2012 at 2:55 PM

I am planning a 10 day trip to Cozumel in September. We'd really like to fly into Cancun, see the ruins in Tulum, stay the night on the main land and then, take the ferry to Cozumel the next day. Then, we'd take the ferry back to Playa del Carmen at the end of our visit and drive to Cancun to fly home. I want to rent a car at the Cancun airport for the entirety of the trip and return it there at the end. Is this possible? I've been reading rumors that the car ferry doesn't allow rental cars and even if it did the wait times are horrible. Would I be better off renting a car from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, an additional car in Cozumel, and then still another car from Playa del Carmen to drive the hour back to the airport? Also, is America Car Rental a good agency? Thanks for any help.

    • Dorado Resorts Playa del Carmen

by blondewithabrain Online Now Feb 5, 2012 at 9:26 AM

Hi, My husband and I are currently trying to decide on staying at an AI (the Dorado Seaside Suites or Dorado Royale) or simply staying in Playa at a EP hotel. We are interested in mainly a romantic time together with some nightlife. We are willing to take a bus or colectivo into PDC if the resorts are convenient to that but hate to pay for an AI if we are not going to be there for the most expensive meal of the day (dinner). We plan on taking public transportation to Tulum and hiring a guide once there. We may or may not take a trip to Chichen Itza. If anyone has stayed at either of these properties, how did you like them? If not, but you happen to know how far they are and how easy it is to get into PDC then we would love to hear from you. We will be there 3/7-3/14 and would love to meet anyone else traveling at that time for a drink!
