We are arriving into Piraeus via cruise ship and have just 10.5hrs there. Any tips on how to self guide, including getting from NCL Terminal to Athens etc., would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nikita
Probably by taxi will be best- head for Plaka area, where Acropolis and most other attractions are. The Fleamarkets are worth a look, and nearby. But just walking around Plaka will give you a good and quick idea of Athens - a wonderful city for walking.

Alternatively, you could just take the Metro from Piraeus into central Athens (Monastariki would be the easiest station to get off, as then you would not need to change lines). Journey takes 17 minutes. Metro map here; amel.gr/index.php?id=54&no_c... Links for more info here: http://www.amel.gr/index.php?id=22&L=1 Journeyplanner here: amel.gr/index.php?id=53&no_c... With that amount of time you can walk from Monastiriki via the Ancient Agora up to the Acropolis & Parthenon (see it from afar or actually visit), then to the New Acropolis Museum (or explore the Plaka district) then back via the Roman Agora and Hadrian's Library etc (again, see from outside or visit) to the 'fleamarket' area near the Monastiriki station. Allow plenty of time for your return journey. Ships don't wait. Stay alert about your valuables during your time in Athens (just as you would in any city anywhere): keep them safely under your clothing.

Take the metro as Lynne advised. he station is a minute walk from the Plaka. I would recommend you walk up to the Parliament area, approx 10 minutes, it is a beautiful area and you will see the Changing of the Guards, Parliament.

I would take the metro from Pireaus and return the same way. You may have to get a taxi from the Terminal to the metro station. Big advantage about the metro is that you wouldn't get stuck in traffic jams!! Don't forget to validate your metro ticket in the small box either on the platform or the station concourse - just watch to see what other people do.
