Ferries to Mykonos

by SandyR26 Online Now Jul 8, 2013 at 6:12 AM

My ship will be in port in piraeus. I want to go to Mykonos. The ferries are much faster out of Rafina to Mykonos but How do I get from Piraeus to Rafina? How long does it take? Cost?

Is it worth the trouble to save 2.5 hrs on the faster ferry ride?

if you are in Pireaus you better catch the ferry from there.
There's no direct bus between them anymore, you have to go to Athens center (by metro, 1.40e) and then catch the bus to Rafina from Pedion Areos (2.40e, every 15' on peak hours, the trip takes about 60' depending on traffic).

So in total you will need at least 90' for this.

Slow ferry from Pireaus takes 4h35’’ to 5h35’’ and cost 33-35euro
Slow ferry from Rafina takes 4h30’’ and cost 24-26euro
Fast ferry from Rafina takes about 2h and cost 49-56euro

obviously arriving in Mykonos in 2hours is a great advantage but you will loose lot of time approaching Rafina anyway. I see no reason to do this unless you visit Mykonos just for the day and you need to be there as early as possible.

When you are at the port of Pireaus, go an agency to buy your ticket to Mykonos , why worry about the time on vacation? About 42 euros and you will be there soon enough or if time is a factor, Fly.

If you go from Piraeus to Central Athens to catch the Rafina Bus you will have spent much of that 2.5 hours by the time you reach your destination. Or you can take the Piraeus/Airport bus and then another bus from the airport to Rafina. Same result.

If the fast ferry is one of the small ones such as the SuperJet or FlyingCat, and also if the winds are strong, the seas will be rough and the seasickness factor rises exponentially.

I believe the bus from Athens to Rafina is €5.

last time I took the bus to Rafina the price was at 2.40euro (2012).

but I dont think she will go to Rafina anyway, its a waste of time from Pireaus

I think it is clear that the best choice is to take the ferry from Piraeus. Anyway, if for some reason you decide to go to Rafina port, there are two different options:

    1. take the metro from Piraeus to Victoria square, then walk to bus terminal at Pedion Areos. This bus goes directly to Rafina port.

    2. take the coastal bus from Piraeus to Eleftherios Vevizelos airport, where there is another bus to Rafina port.
