Pienza as a daytrip from Lucca.

by Maurizioago Online Now Aug 21, 2011 at 7:01 AM

Is it possible to travel by bus, or by train between these two places? How long would this journey be?

Maurizio, you know I haven't done this trip but I've tried to research it a bit.

The nearest station to Pienza is Chiusi (about 45 minutes' drive away from Pienza), a 3+ hour train trip from Lucca (change in Florence). But you need two buses from there anyway.

It might be easier to take the train to Siena, because bus 112 to Pienza starts from there. Timetable here:

    trainspa.it/train04/extraurb...

If you caught the 0755 from Lucca (2 changes) you'd be in Siena for 1014 and could catch the 1050 bus, getting you to Pienza for 1205. But the last 112 to Siena leaves at 1425, so it seems a lot of effort for not very much time spent in Pienza....

Maybe someone else can come up with a better option....

I'm sure it is, but maybe you should plan to stay overnight? 2 hours isn't very long to explore...

Oh gosh, sacrifice one of your nights in Lucca and spend it in Pienza. It is a gem of a place and deserves more than a cursory visit.
