    • Travelling with a 12 yr old | Vegetarian food

Siem Reap Aug 20, 2015 at 4:09 AM

      Hello VT,

My wife and I intend to travel to Siem Reap in November with our 12 year old son. It would be a dedicated Angkor Wat visit, want to spend most of the time, about 4 days, at the temple complex during the daytime.

The best way for us to get there seems to be a flight into SR from Bangkok, but some of them do not reach in day times. Is it ok to reach in late evening or at night?

We would want to stay in a happening active neighbourhood where we could entertain ourselves and the child in the evenings. Stepping out on the street and wandering about town are actually fine, so we are a little apprehensive of the larger hotels/properties. On the flip side, larger hotels possibly have better in-compound activities from a child's point of view. So suggestions would be welcome about the choice of hotel.

We are lacto-vegetarians and are somewhat concerned about the ease of finding our kind of food. We have never traveled in SE Asia, except Sri Lanka where it was tough finding vegetarian food. I have heard that vegans are either frowned upon or are rendered a laughing stock in Cambodia ;-) hence would like to know.

Any comments, suggestions to help us make the most out of our trip would be welcome.

      Thanks and cheers!

Phnom Penh Aug 1, 2015 at 7:21 AM

Is it recommended to wear raincoat and flip slops when it is raining in Phnom Penh? Is August a month of floods for Phnom Penh? Should i cancel my 2D1N trip to Phnom Penh on 6 August in that case?

      Itenerary and hotels

      Cambodia Jul 28, 2015 at 10:02 PM

We have 14-15 days on the ground in Cambodia and am looking for 2 or 3 areas to visit during this time so we are not spending the entire trip traveling from place to place. We want culture/history/nature as well as beach/fun/sun. It's 2 couples, all ladies and we are between 33-40yrs old. Seems like we would want to go to Siem Reapp & Phnom Penh and then add in a beach town or island.

When it comes to the beach town and or island we want beauty and are hoping for an place that has some lively beach bars. We enjoy gathering for drinks, meeting fellow travelers and something with a bit of a night life.

We aren't budget travelers or high end. We like hotels/bungalows or other accommodations that are friendly, clean and don't mind paying $50-$85 a night. Any suggestions are appreciated and I am more than happy to answer questions if it would help with your suggestions.

      Thanks you!
