Which part of Phuket to stay?

by ZeroNiner Online Now May 19, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Hi Going to Phuket w/family at end May for sun, surf and sand. Reading up, I realise that most of the hotels & beaches are on the west of the island. I'm trying to decide which beach to stay & I'm rather bewildered. Patong beach is the most commercial & developed, if my research is correct. Hence also the most crowed & sleazy, although the upside is that there'll be a lot of dining and entertainment options. As we are looking for a quieter time, we've decided against Patong. What about Kata? I've read that it's quite scenic even amongst the beaches; there are many good hotels & resorts there and it's a lot quieter than Patong. Alternatively would Kamala or Karon? Thoughts & opinions welcome, thanks.

Patong is the main beach area on the island, but you already know that. Karon is a quiet beach and Kata is a little more quiet but both are ideal for your'e family. As for entertainment at night both of these places have a few bars etc... but not on the scale of Patong. Defiantly worth going, Kata Beach is the furthest away and may cost a little more for transport to and from Patong and at night they will charge higher fare.

Kamala is the least busiest among the choices you mentioned. But it still has some restaurant options available. Kata and karon have more restaurant options. The beach is quieter in Kamala.

Personally, I would suggest that you pick Patong beach. It is quite confusing that people misunderstand about Patong beach. It is not all about the commercial area only. Patong does have its own cozy corner where you can really enjoy the beautiful beaches with sun and sand. I recently visited Patong beach during my weekend. I stayed at the Citin Patong Plaza, a nice hotel with cozy ambiance, great foods and extremely helpful staffs. This hotel is very nice for people who look for quite relaxation. You can check our their hot offer and promotion at http://www.citinplazapatong.com/. I hope this helps!
