Hi, where does Star Virgo "park" in Phuket (Please advise on the exact name so that I can plan my schedule)? Is there any nice shopping center nearby which we can go walk? Or is there any tourist attraction nearby? Thanks.
I'm pretty sure that it pulls up in Patong Bay, but I'm not sure that you can get off there. If you do, it would be by tender. I think that it docks at Phuket Harbour near Cape Panwa. I may be wrong, so see what other people have to add. Is there anything on their website about it?

I agree with Tina in thinking that the boat stops in Patong Bay. I know for sure that one Star ship does. Apart from the numerous shops in Patong there is the Jungceylon shopping mall that may interest you. Regards John

Superstar Virgo does indeed "park" off Patong Beach and passengers are ferried to shore by lifeboats and other tenders. It takes about 10 minutes. Be aware that you may be swamped with drivers offering trips to "best shopping" etc. These drivers normally take you to specific places which sell jewellery for example because they receive a commission if you buy something, so if you are not really interested it can be rather stressful and a waste of time. There are lots of shops within easy walking distance along the beachfront and OTOP markets (behind the Holiday Inn) are worth visiting.

I thought that was the case, Swiss, but also heard the tenders no longer ran. I can't see why else they'd park at Patong Bay though, than for people to have a look/shop.

Thats interesting. Hope my info is not outdated then. I was onboard Virgo when it made its first trip back to Phuket after the tsunami, so Feb 05. They lower the lifeboats and just shuttle back and forth all day. There is a big jetty at the southern end of the beach. I will never forget how calm and serene Patong Bay looked that day.

The ship anchors out in Patong Bay, and there are tenders running passengers ashore. I was just on a liveaboard dive boat a couple of weeks ago that also anchors in Patong Bay, saw the ship at anchor and saw the tenders running. Hope that helps.
