Climate in June and July in particular, and the after that?

by travelnut71 Online Now May 5, 2012 at 9:28 AM

Hi everyone. I would like to go to Asia, we were thinking about this country as one option. What I do know is they say it is the rainy season, I also know the amount of rainfall is high. I didn't find a website yet that gives me exactly the information I need. A lot of travellers who hate rain, like me, will shy away, but some people have said to check because the rainfall amount may be high, but the overall time it rains per day can be minutes to a few hours, why avoid a country for this? I understand it may be hot, wet and humid, I don't mind this feeling. I do want to see the sun though, I could take a few hours of rain per day, but I don't like grey skies and rain. I don't want to risk leaving my country when it's at it's best, to visit a rainy one :) Thanks! PS Is it as dangerous as they say to travel here?

I have been to The Philippines several times the past few years and yes, it´s rainy season in june/july. But that being said it´s not really too bad. As some people mention it´s mostly raining for an hour each day during rainy season. If you are unlucky you might get some cloudy weather during your stay but you should see the sun most of the time there. In my experience it´s mostly when i´m in Manila that the clouds are hanging all over the city, but that might also have to do with the smog situation and you would not really want to stay for too long in Manila anyway. The Philippines is a country that is best seen in the smaller places if you ask me. I was in The Philippines myself last june/july and will be back in the region this summer again. And when i was there last june/july i was cycling around the country and i saw very little rain during the day. The rainfall was almost aslways in the evening or late afternoon, but when i was out cycling on the roads during the daytime it was mostly nice and sunny. And i would not be worried about going to the Philippines. There is a lot of crime but it´s local crime and hardly ever aimed at the tourists. The bad stories you hear are from the very southern part of the country where you have some rebels kidnapping people, but as long as you stay away from some truble spots in the very south then you are totally fine. And just about everyone speaks english in the Philippines so you can get around the country quite easily. And the place is extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a big meeting on the island Boracay last january where people of all ages came from all over the world and we had no problems whatsoever.

In June and July you can expect some rain, maybe even a typhoon, but again you could have 2 weeks without a drop of rain. I would not be put off by the weather, but maybe if you go to Banaue and Sagada you will experience more rain and cloud. The south of Philippines, Palawan where i live is off the typhoon path and many times you don't really notice it's the rainy season. I notice that you are inquiring about the weather in India and Thailand too. In the north of Thailand it might be pretty miserable in those months, and some years ago i was in India from Sept - March, and i cannot remember the weather being a problem.

Forgot to mention that i would not be worried about any danger in travelling here. YES, stay away from Basilan and Cotabato where there are problems with the fighting but travelling in Philippines is quite safe, you shouldn't worry. I have lived here over 20 years and never had a problem travelling, yes a few people try to rip you off in the tricycle but that happens all over Asia.

What "you dont want" really does not matter. June/July is rainy season and whatever comes your way, you take it. There are things we cannot change in this world. Our age, for example. But you can change the way you feel or change your visit day.
