Looking for a relaxing, coastal location

Hi there — I'm traveling in Peru for a couple of weeks, and I have one week in particular when I will be traveling by myself (late August). I'm looking for recommendations for relaxing, possibly beach-side locations where I can just chill out for a while. I have this vision of a small cottage and interesting towns or villages to wander. Mancora was recommended to me, though it looks a little resort-y to me. I'm a little more partial to staying off the tourist track, if possible. All your rec's are welcome and I'm open to ideas!
