hello there, i'll be in peru in august. lima/arequipa/puno/cusco - is the weather generally warm during the day and cold at night? also, i don't plan to do a lot of trekking (i won;'t be doing the inca trail but will be going to MP and Colca Canyon) what sort of footware would you recommend? do i actually need to bring boots? or would very comfy trekking sandals (reefs) do? advice much appreciated!
Hi, I was ther in July and the weather in Lima was dull, grey, damp most of the time, but not overly cold. Arequipa was very nice and warm in the daytime (this is all relative and I am from Scotland...) but very cold at night. Cusco was similar. For MP and Colca Canyon, a decent pair of walking shoes or sports shoes should be OK. Hope this helps.

Peru weather weather.yahoo.com/regional/P... August average temperature: Lima avg high=66.0° F, avg low=60.0° F Arequipa 84.0° F 75.0° F Cusco 67.8° F 35.1° F Puno No August average available. Today: 53° F 28° F Figure it is about the same in August as Cusco because the altitudes are similar. In general, figure on 3° F drop for every 1000 ft of elevation gain, at night. So if the low in Lima at sea level is 60 F, then Cusco is about 10,000 ft higher so it is about 30 F colder. Puno is also high altitude.

Hi, I´ve just done Colca Canyon and Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. Reefs or Chocos or a solid sandal will defintely do. It does get chilly at night though. I would reccomend bringing some sort of covered shoe for the night time chill and for any trek more than a few hours. That´s just my preference though. I trek in my Chocos if it is a short and or easy trek and I wear my boots at night when it´s cold or if it´s a hard or long trek. Walking to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes is steep. I did it in Chocos with no problems but had horribly dirty feet. Colca Canyon is even steeper. Having the extra support of the boots was a bonus. Not sure I would do that one in Chocos. I hate socks and anything that makes me wear them, Rick

Hey! My name is Iván, 26, I'm from Lima, and I'm planning a trip to Cuzco, again (it´s an amazing place!!), in august.. So, first, about the weather. In Lima cold all day and night long..about 13º-15º. And in Cuzco, Arequipa, etc; very sunny in the day, but veeery cold a night. As simple as that. About shoes...I think you'll need boots. But reefs are needed too for resting...so, If you can, bring both. If you can't, boots are your choice. So, ask we whatever you want.. just drop me some lines..habla_gallada@yahoo.com. Bye and good luck! Iván
