Hi am returning to Perth soon. Yeepee... I have checked through the transperth website, but still find it confusing especially for the amount to pay. However I am pretty confident that the good Perth people will help me by. Anyway, as I am travelling with my mom, there will be a few trip that I would have to take the cab/taxi. Please share with me the tipping style here, do I need to tip the driver? Also back in the hotel, is tipping a common practice in Perth? how much do people usually give. Thanks : )
Tipping in not mandatory in Australia as wages are paid according to awards. Having said that in some 4or5 star hotels some patrons tip for good service. I usually round off a taxi fare...or add a couple of dollars....You do find a bit of a tip makes them keen to help with luggage. Have a look at The_Downunder_Mob page for lots more on Australia.... Ilive in Perth, tipping is rare, I only do it if I think something is exceptional, and then only a few dollars at most. You do not have to tip taxi, however when travelling to and from the airport I let them have the loose change, mostly a dollar or two if they help with the luggage etc. No need to tip in hotel. As for bus and train timetable you can pick one up at the tourist inf centre or train/ bus station. This will be easier than computer. Enjoy Perth

There are FREE 'CAT' buses around the city centres in both Perth and Fremantle. Prices on other buses are based on the number of 'zones' you travel across. Across the city centre will be a few dollars. You can get an 'all day rider ticket' which allows you to travel on as many busses, trains and the ferry across the river all day, can't remember the exact price, about6-7 I think. It is not necessry to tip in taxis, restaurants or hotels, though some people leave a dollar or two if they feel they have had excellent service.
