Does taxi in Penang charged by meter. If not can someone pls give guide line on how much will be the charges from Penang airport to the Gurney Residences & Hotel? Are there any metro that stop at various places of interest in Penang?
The proper taxis in Penang are metered, yes. If you get in a taxi that doesn't have their meter on, ask them to turn it on. Do not negotiate if they are reluctant, just find another cab. Penang's fantastic, have a great time! Great to see someone going here instead of the bigger Langkawi :) Regards, Leon

meter cabs, and rather inexpensive....just make sure they turn on the meter and not an agree upon charge. cheers tommy x

I'm sorry to say that Penang Airport Taxi are control by Airport Taxi Association. If you intent to take a taxi at the airport, then you have no choice but to buy the taxi coupon at the counter or you have to walk futher down the road and wait for the town taxi to drop their passenger then you stop the taxi. It may cost you about RM30-40 to your destination.

Penang International Airport is under upgrading progress, so its a bit messy-messy over the airport and the signage. Just follow the sign to the nearest Airport taxi area, there is temporary counter to ask for the taxi/limousine service and fare may be vary on your destination and you pay directly at the counter before you get in the taxi/limousine. I dont know what you mean by Metro. Anyway, you can take advantage of Penang MPPP Rapid Bus - the CAT Free Shuttle Bus Route for sightseeing within the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site and other places of interest. I think you would have a better chance to get a free ride in Santa Clause's sleigh than to convince a penang taxi driver to turn on his meter. The only way to get a taxi is to barter the price. I don't believe the meters work anyway.
