Need some help on the traveling time by coach from KL to Penang. How long does it take to travel from KL to Penang? What about by flight? What about by train? To you, which way is better to travel from Penang to Singapore? Flight, train or coach? I need a fast but not too expensive way of traveling from Penang to Singapore. Thank you in advance for any advise.

Flight from KL to Penang is a couple of hours from memory, however, we did stop at another airport before changing to a smaller aircraft to go to the island from the mainland.

HI! Coach from Penang to Singapore would be cheaper but it is a long journey - about 10 hours. Fly would be the fastest option and this sector is serviced by 3 airlines: Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines and Xiamen Airways. The last is the cheapest and return tickets can be available from S$140 return without taxes & surcharges. Check http://www.zuji.com.sg for deals.

Another cheap option would be to fly from Penang to Johor Bahru, then take a bus from Johor Bahru to Singapore.

The train doesn't go to Penang Island. To get to Penang Island, you need to get down at Butterworth and from there, take the ferry or get a cab to bring you over on to the island. My suggestion would be to take the coach from KL to Penang and from Penang to Singapore. Reasons being : - Overnight coaches are comfortable. You reach the next morning. (For both sectors you mentioned.) - Coach stations are usually in the centre of town, ie Komtar (George Town area) and you do not need to travel all the way to Bayan Lepas (if you choose to fly) which is quite a distance from town. Well, you do not need to check in at least 1 hour earlier, etc etc. Happy planning and enjoy my birthplace, Penang and its food too. Bee :)
