Hi, I'm hoping to do 3-4weeks of french language training in France, and looking for recommendations on where, what school, etc. I love the Pyrenees (walking etc) thus am drawn to Pau, though have never been. I'm hoping to register for something for late Feb or early March. I'm in my 30s thus am not overly keen on a very young/schoolish type of french language school. All ideas and advice greatly appreciated.
The best French language classes are at the Alliance Francaise. They are located all over the world (135 countries), so you can continue when you come home. I found courses at the Pau University, but they are for a semester (20 weeks). I suggest you contact them, maybe they can help you for a 3-4 week course at some other recommended institution. Look here: diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/france... and alliancefrancaise.org.uk/oth... or in Paris: http://www.alliancefr.org/ Interestingly though, in the UK there are 10 offices (nearest you is Bath) but in the much smaller The Netherlands, there are 40!

There are French government sponsored schools all over France. The two I recommend most often are: 1. In the Loire Valley - Tours http://www.institut-touraine.asso.fr/ 2. In Provence - Aix en Provence http://www.iefee.com/ Here is more general information: http://www.coeurdefrance.com/ french-at-a-touch.com/School... http://www.cia-france.com/ oculture.com/weblog/2006/10/... You can also take French language classes from where you are right now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/ http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/ http://french.about.com/ Of course, if studying at home you might want to practice proper pronunciation: research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts...
