Hii everyone..me and my friend planned to visit bangkok, pattaya from 14 april'13- 21 april'13.. is this time is good for njoying nightlife of thailand.. i heard about thai new year.. whether we can find good nightlife in this time.. this is our first time.. please suggest.. whether anyone going at the same time??
Any time is a good time as there are plenty to do for newbies in the area. I think that it is the experience that counts. Thailand and where ever city that you go to will be Thailand. People and the culture does not change. There will be plenty of. Expats to enjoy a chat with. Have fun.

Hi!..On Thai new year (13-15April) ,almost all nightlie in Bangkok and Pattaya will be opened as usual. The things that will be closed on Thai new year are government offices and some bank that you may not concern during your visit. So no need to be worried, you can enjoy all activities that you mentioned any time, any week. There will be a bit more people on each places during new year week (12-16)cuz locals going out enjoying on their new year holiday as well...Enjoy the trip.

You won't have a problem finding nightlife in Pattaya!!
Word of advice--it will be Songkarn, Thai New Year 13-15 April and locals will be throwing water everywhere so protect you passports, cash, camera in a waterproof bag. You cannot say you don't want to participate in it because if you are out on the street you are part of it. Don't get angry if your doused with water. I suggest you buy your water pistol and join the fun---it is a great time to be there!!

For nightlife if you mean fancy nightclubs then Bangkok might be better although Pattaya does have some nightclubs. But if you mean go-go bar and beer bar type nightlife Pattaya has a lot of that and cheaper than Bangkok too. Also hotels in Pattaya are cheaper than Bangkok and local transportation is only 10 baht.
When you research Songkran you will notice that Pattaya celebrates a little longer than other cities in Thailand. Once you have been through one or two of these celebrations this holiday seems to go on forever and ever! You will get wet in Pattaya! You do not just look at this holiday celebration you are part of it unless you hide out in your hotel room. Hotels, malls, enclosed stores, supermarkets, restaurants with seating areas and doors you can close usually no water tossing. Open air beer bars will have water thrown around too. Like the other post mentioned put your wallet in a plastic bag and keep cameras wrapped in plastic too.
During the off season there are fewer tourists in Thailand than November through February but there will still be millions of tourists visiting during the summer months. Many repeat tourists prefer the off season because it is cheaper.
Pattaya Beach is okay for sunbathing, shopping, nightlife and restaurants but most tourists do not swim at Pattaya Beach. There are better beaches in Thailand. Many hotels have pools. You can swim off of Koh Larn Island if you want.
Pattaya is easy to get to from Bangkok city area and from Suvbarnabhumi.
Up to you.
