PLANE CONNNECTION AT CDG

by genebeans Online Now Jul 27, 2012 at 7:02 AM

We are looking into flights and one flight arrives at roughly 8.30 AM and the flight connecting to Rome is at 9.45 AM- Barring any delays is this enough time to get from one terminal 2 location to the other and make the flight or are we really gambling with this time frame--I know we will have to get through passport control and hope there is a line for people with connecting flights- I did this once before about 5 years ago and our flight was late so we never got a chance to try to make the connection- Thanks-Gene

This depends on your ticketing. If you are flying on a through ticket with the same airline, then yes. However, if you are flying on one ticket TO Paris and then ANOTHER ticket to Rome, then you will need to collect luggage and do full security clearances again. If you're flying with Air France, then they are great at making all attempts to get passengers from late arriving flights onto their connecting flight. I once flew with them via Paris and was late; they had someone at the gate to collect us and a mini-bus to take us to the aircraft.

If you reach the gate at 8:30, it takes at least 15 minutes to deplane and get to passport control...which could then take another 15-30 minutes depending on what other flights have landed, and if you have to pick up your luggage, then another another 15-20 minute walk withing Terminal 2, depending on which of the six sub terminals you are in... I would say even with a 75% chance of everything going right I would allow for extra time. I used to cut it a little close, but now I allow at least 2 1/2 hours for connection time. Karl

if you had both flights on same ticket no worry, in case you'll be late with first flight, AF would give next flight to Rome at no charges. beware.. same ticket!!

BEGIN RANT - CDG is by far the worst airport I've ever used for connections in the world. After numerous horrible experiences with CDG, I now have resolved to NEVER use CDG if I am connecting anywhere. It is plain and simply terrible and is met with a Gallic shrug if you miss you flight. If you're concerned you should be. Chances are you could make the flight, but no one is going to care much if you don't. RANT OVER - Suffice it to say that I avoid like the plague any flight that connects through CDG.

Oh yeah. Frankfurt is horrible for connecting too. Look for flights connecting through other airports if you can.

it depends on your arrival airline if on time. The connection is very limited in your case I leave 1h30 min and its ok. Assuming ou dont pickup luggage its doable. Again it depends on the arriving airline and you should talk to hostess on board to tell them about the connecting flight. they know them but will help if you can identify yourself to them I go by there every month on connecting flights. I just came from La coruna, spain and my plane was delayed 50 mins, Iberia lol!!! Cheers

I had a transfer between two Air France flights at CDG terminal 2 a couple of weeks ago, no problems at all. Same ticket, so no bags to collect and a walk of about 10 minutes between gates. One thing - you have to pass through security a second time, so anything you buy at your original departure point shop and take on board the first flight will likely be confiscated. Second, mine was a 'Schengen' trip, so no passport checks etc except for in flight security on re-boarding. Passengers arriving from outside the European passport area, including those from the UK, have to go through passport and immigration controls, which eat up the time.

I am with giampiero6 on this one - I have been through CDG twice and never again. It has been a nail-biting and nerve-wracking experience wondering if I would catch my connecting flight. The only plus is that last time we were upgraded to business class - still not worth the hassle and angst! I assume you arrive in Terminal 2 and leave from Terminal 2? Where from? Although CDG was supposed to be THE answer to transfers in airports, it is about the worst I have ever come across - it might work in theory but in practice, it is a dismal failure. You appear to be travelling on the one ticket, which means that the 1hr15 minutes connection time has been accepted as doable - so if you miss your flight, then the airline will look after you. I assume there is more than one flight to Rome after the one you might miss, so this would be okay - annoying but okay, so you wouldn't be hanging around for a day or so. If you can book a later flight to Rome, then that's what I would suggest you do.

Thank you all for your time and replies- It is appreciated and this seems like something that Las Vegas could use to create odds to see if we make it or not. Thanks and I am doing my best for a non stop to Rome with Alitalia but upgrading seems that using Air France is the best option. Thanks again to all-Gene

I always fly with Air France whenever I travel outside Europe. I've always had tight connections CDG whenever I connected flights for South America but never had any problems. I had friends who had missed connections at CDG but Air France have always put them on the next flight and put them up in hotels if the next flight is the following day. As others said, your bags are checked through and check in completed at the first airport (providing if it's the same airline throughout - in this case, Air France).
