Can I buy a Eurail pass at Gare de Paris-Nord?

by RealDavidTurnbull Online Now Jul 25, 2012 at 11:51 PM

I'm looking to buy a Eurail pass (specifically, a 1st class saver ticket for 15 consecutive days) and I'm wondering: can I just walk into Gare de Paris-Nord and pick one up on the spot? I know I should have ordered one online (because I believe that's cheaper), but timing-wise, it just didn't work out. Any help is appreciated. :) (And, as for calling the Eurail aid station, we're not sure what their number is.)

Even if you can buy that, please keep in mind that it might not be that hassle-free as it sounds. Furthermore, in a majority of practical scenarios buying a Pass is a lot more expensive than buying point-to-point tickets direct from the respective rail operator.

The first question you should ask is not "can I buy an Eurail pass" but "should I buy an Eurail pass". What are your intentions? Which trips do you want to make? The pass will in all probability not make train travel more flexible or cheaper.

Agree...first check that a Eurail pass will actually be worthwhile for you. they are no longer the budget options they once were and point-to-point ticket totals are often cheaper. Eurail is not a rail operator: it is simply a pass-selling agency and of course they present their passes as being a better option. But... Eurail passes require you to pay extra for seat reservations and supplements for some faster trains. They do not guarantee you a seat on any train, and france has a quota system for pass-holders on come trains. You certainly do not need to spend extra on a first-class ticket. Second-class is used by everyone, safe and comfortable. The 'extras' you get for first-class (often nothing apart from a little it more space) are rarely worth the extra you pay (which can be substantial). You can only buy Eurail passes from the agencies listed here: eurailgroup.org/Rail%20Passe... I'm afraid I have no idea whether any of these agencies are represented at Gare du Nord.
