Steph, I see from a former post that you already have a hotel so no problems there. You've already chosen the very best things to do in Paris: free museums and walking - and don't forget the churches! Notre Dame, Sacré-Cœur, La Madeleine, St Eustache, Saint-Sulpice ... they're free too. Paris has wonderful park for stroll and inexpensive picnics.... parisdigest.com/menus/taking... ... and don't for the marvelous cemeteries - good place to take a ton of photos: Père Lachaise - the most famous Montemartre - close to the Sacré-Cœur Montparnasse - near Luxembourg Gardens paris.fr/english/heritage-an... The best place to ooh and ahhh over the Eiffel isn't necessarily at the top - the Trocadero, just across the river, is a marvelous place to see it all a-twinkle. All you need is a good guidebook and a map to make your own tours; trust me, you won't run out of places to go! Food? Every cafe has a menu outside so you can match price to budget. Our members have written extensively about great, not necessarily expensive places to eat: Paris Restaurants

We bought a card called a Restopolitan Card for about 10 Euros which gave us 1/2 off dinners at some very nice meals. Website is restopolitan.com We used the card twice for dinners and saved over 60 Euros for some very good food.

Here's a link to a review I wrote today on one of the two restaurants where we used the card. Pinxo: "Pinching Something From Another Plate" - Paris Restaurant Tip by riorich55

Check out the discount entry times for many of the museums and galleries - Louvre is free on the first Sunday of each month plus free for U-26s on Friday night (6pm-9.45pm). There is also the Paris Museum Pass - ranges from 39 Euros (2 days) to 69 Euros (6 days) - and provides free entry once purchased. Museums include Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Branly, Notre Dame (tour), d'Orsay, Versailles, Pantheon and many many many more. Louvre alone is 10 Euros. Well worth considering if you are there for 6 days.

beside what Tommy wrote, you can have breakfast at one boulangerie and have dinner at Flunch http://www.flunch.fr

this is quite close to center flunch.fr/restaurants/restau... as you do 6 days, going to an apartment is not a bad idea, you can have also a place where to make breakfast and dinner..

1. Book into hotel which gives complimentary American-style breakfast. Tuck in generously. 2. Make filling sandwiches with provisions bought at the local grocery store the previous evening. Take that along as a lunch packet. You could indulge in a bottle of wine or beer or whatever and do a daily picnic. 3. So many of the sights and to-do things are completely free. Many have been cited above by goodfish. Still, here is a website you could visit: http://www.parislogue.com/free-paris 4. Wouldn't harm if you tried to meet fellow VTers from Paris and ask them for further guidance.

There are numerous free museums in Paris, particularly those that belong to the city: paris.fr/english/museums/mun...

you have good options on free museums, discouts etc. in Paris actually the best way is not to eat at restos, but try cafes and bakeries; brioche dorée is a chain all over, see them here briochedoree.fr/carte-restau... Buy your groceries in supermarkets like Franprix, franprix.fr/localiser-votre-... and G20 very inexpensive stuff there. supermarchesg20.com/nos-maga... walking is the best part of it, you will have a great feel for the city as we all do it here. transports get the carnet of 10 tickets and share them , at last resort, the walks are better. This is an upcoming area along the canals for staying absolute-paris.com/eng_hotel... and this one has great room in a hostal environment all at good prices and a nice Belushi's bar inside. st-christophers.co.uk/paris-... hope it helps

Most of the municipal museums are free and the pay ones are about 3 euros. paris.fr/loisirs/musees-expo... Free organ recitals at Notre Dame Sunday at 4:30 PM and they are usually terrific. If there's a line of tourists, enter the exit. Amazing art in churches. Walking is free and fun. Get a carnet of Metro tickets for 12.70 euros and take the Metro out to a sight in the morning and sightsee your way back to your hotel during the day. You'll only use two tickets a day that way. My favorite place in Paris is the Tuileries Gardens and that is free. You have art, people, animals, food, fun, romance and relaxation all in one tidy package. The Luxembourg Gardens are also amazing and you can lose yourself in them for hours. Free sculpture garden along the Seine near the Jardin des Plantes (another free garden). There is a pleasant garden (free) beside the Cluny Museum (not free) where you can take a picnic and enjoy the folks picnicing with you. Lots of street vendors just outside so you can get a sandwich, crepe or something more substantial to take into the garden. Place des Vosges is free and beautiful. Visit the Victor Hugo Museum (free) while you're there. The Memorial to the Martyrs of the Deportation is free just behind Notre Dame Cathedral. Sacre Coeur is free and so is the touristic hysteria at Place du Tertre nearby and it's great fun. The Rodin Museumm is wonderful and charges but the gardens are lovely with lots of sculptures and charge only 3 euros. Here's my list of Free Things to Do in Paris. "Free things to do in Paris" - Paris Things to Do Tip by Beausoleil Honestly, Paris is our budget vacation destination. Check the menu before you walk into a restaurant to make sure you know what you'll pay and you'll be fine. There is art in the streets, church yards, parks and gardens and it's all free. There will be street performers by Notre Dame and several other places. The Place Igor Stravinsky beside the Pompidou Center is great fun, fountains, crowds and street performers. Your six days will zip by and you'll be ready to plan another trip. Have a good time.

The only big cost in Paris is the accomendations, other than that you get what you pay for. Paris is my favorite destination of the world as San Francisco is my favorite city in USA. I always find so many free things to do in Paris and just hang out with the locals and tourist. cheers tommy x

Paris has so much to offer, with a good map and a bit of research before your arrival, you can just walk around the city and have a great time, for free. However, if you prefer to go on a walking tour, you can try the free walking tours offered by Discover Walks. We did their Heart of Paris and the Paris Landmarks tours and would highly recommend both. Great local guides, informative and entertaining at the same time. I think they offer 6 different tours which run several times a day. At the end of the tour you're expected to tip your guide, of course, but you choose how much you wish to give them. www.discoverwalks.com Another option would be to use the public bike rental service "Velib", which costs 1.70 euros for a day ticket and during that time you can use as many bikes as you wish around the city, for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time, and you must leave 15 minutes before taking the next bike. Again, with a map, this could be a fun way to discover certain areas of the city. As another member mentioned, there are many free museums in Paris, so try to make the most of those as well. Finally, you can always have a picnic in any of the wonderful parks/gardens around the city and have a grea time just enjoying the view. I would recommend the Chaps of Mars or Chaillot/Trocadero gardens for a great view of the Tour Eiffel. Have a great time in Paris!

As accommodation can cost you a lot in Paris, check out www.airbnb.com. I used it in May to get an apartment in Paris. Managed to get a 3 bedroom apartment in Bolougne Billancourt, for about EUR185/nite. It's just outside the city, about 20 mins metro ride to Eiffel...but the good news is that, there's a metro stop there. You'll probably be able to get a cheaper apartment considering that there's only 2 of you.
