I'll be travelling to Paris in winter (08Dec onwards). 1. Where can I get the best (chic and affordable) winterwear such as coats (not more than EUR250) in Paris? Or will it be cheaper in eastern europe, where I will be travelling to as well? 2. Will there be any soldes (sales) post Christmas, ie. 26 Jun? Understand that soldes in France are controlled by the government, but given the poor economy, has the government relaxed the rules? 3. As my country enjoys 365 days of sunshine, please advise what clothings would be appropriate for the December period.
On item (3) above December in Paris can be wet and cold. There may even be snow. You will need a good rain jacket or coat and good shoes. Chic may not be your priority as much as keeping dry! On item (2) I have never heard this. Many stores have sales especially after Christmas and into the New Year. Item (1) I cannot help as I have not recently been to Eastern Europe but since their climate is even colder I expect you should be able to find something suitable while there that you can take to Paris with you.

Yes, there are dates controlled by the government for "real" sales, but many shops find ways to get round that and there differences for some departements (counties). Here is a site that gives all the "official" dates of the sales for 2012, 2013 and 2014. encyclopedie-gratuite.fr/Def...

winter in Paris is nice, 1) best and chic and affordable are contradicting versions, you get one or the other. best clothing areas are in blvd magenta towards porte de la chapelle, and on the temple area; but many many stores. I buy mine outside of Paris, better prices. Eastern Europe generally speaking will have lower prices 2) there are soldes set up by the govt twice a year and there are promotions done by merchants all year around. winter soldes will start January 8 2013. 3) 365 days of sunshine we have here too ::) is just not as hot lol!!! average temp is 5°C, feel it ? hope it helps
