Train Question

by sbmmava Online Now Jun 4, 2012 at 6:03 AM

Hello VT members, If I buy Paris pass zones 1-5 for 3 days(41.90) can I use this pass to travel to and from CDG/ORY airports? since we are landing in CDG and going out from ORY. I thought it should work because both the airports are in the 1-5 zones, am I correct on this? Also is there price differences for peak time and non-peak time travel in Paris? London tubes had that difference. Paris Visite-Adults 1 Jour 2 Jours 3 Jours 5 Jours Zones 1-3 9.30 15.20 20.70 29.90 Zones 1-5 19.60 29.90 41.90 51.20 One more question, If I book a hotel near ORY airport and buy this pass, is it very difficult to travel to city center for three days when we are in Paris? We have an very early flight on the 4th day from ORY so I want to stay near ORY on our third night, so I thought of staying all three nights near ORY instead of changing hotels in between. I am just wondering about the wasting the travel time. I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Travel time, you're talking about roughly half an hour by train. Dependant on which hotel you will be staying, there are two methods of getting into the centre. 1) At the airport you can take the driverless Orlyval to Anthony, change and then the RER B into St. Michel (the most central). 2) You could also take the Transilien train from Pont de Rungis-Aeroport d'Orly station also to St. Michel. A good thing to look at when you book a hotel around Orly is that many of them have free shuttles, not only to and from the airport but also to the train stations. This is what I did a couple of years ago when travelling out to Morocco at 6h30 in the morning. Booked a hotel for the night, they came and picked us up at Pont de Rungis and the following morning at 04h45 took us to the airport, all free.

yes zone 1-5 cover airport (for ORY you have to check for the ORLYVAL the shuttle from the RER to the airport not sure if it require a separate ticket) and there is no peak hour charge (yet) Going to the city center is about 30 min, not so bad but not to good either, and it will mean you'll have to transfert trough chatelet which is as confusing as it is long distance to walk.

@Aisha, why go through Chatelet when you can get off at St. Michel, which is much easier ?

it depend where you want to go, not every metro line is connected to Saint-Michel :) But you are right it is maybe more convenient and easily connected to Notre-Dame/Orsay/Invalides/Eiffel Tower

good advice so far, and yes St Michel is much better than Chatelet specially for visitors, easier. you are ok with the pass.no price diff just zones. ORY is in Orly dept Val de Marne 94 outside south of Paris, transport there is limited with changes, you can get to Paris but better to stay closer to peripherique beltway around Paris in between, you have plenty of hotels by porte d'Orleans to porte de gentilly. Trains go out from 5h30 am so unless your flight is really early you will have time. check your time. hope it helps

Thank you so much for all of your replies. I think we will buy 3 day 1-5 zone pass and probably consider staying south of Paris in between airport ORY and City center. Our flight is at 8 AM but it is international connection to Asia so we need to be at the airport at least two hours early to find the counter, assign seats, check in etc., Is it easy to reach to the hotels in porte d'Orleans or porte de gentilly by RER? We will have at least one suitcase per person. Please share some links to find hotels in this area close to ORY. Thanks again everyone
