I'll be flying into Paris later this year on an all night flight from the U.S.A. and will have about a 12 hour layover in Paris. My flight will be in business class but, never having flown Air France before, I'm not sure how conducive the Boeing 777 and Airbus 380 seats are to sleeping. What I'd like to know is how well the Air France lounge would accommodate rest and if there are perhaps better options.
We got bumped up to Business Class in Air France once and it was wonderful. We slept nearly the entire way. I don't know anything about the lounge but there are hotels near the airport where you can rent for a short period of time and that might be quieter and more comfortable. Here is the airport web site and you can check both. aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/en-g...

Hi I have transited through CDG often on business, and the lounges are nothing exceptional (in a good or bad sense). I would say that they're restful íf you're reading or writing or checking your e-mails, but I wouldn't class them as being particularly conducive to sleep. As Sally says, the flight should be relatively comfortable, and if you're in business class, I would be surprised if you couldn't grab a few hours. Can I put an entirely different spin on this? If you do manage to sleep on the Transatlantic flight, would you also need to sleep during your layover in Paris? My personal suggestion (and a strategy that I often adopted, as my layover in CDG was 16 hours) was to have a shower, change my clothes and head off into Paris for the day. It's ridiculously easy to jump on the RER which will take you into Gare du Nord in less than an hour, and it was a brilliant way of enjoying a 'free' day in Paris (as well as allowing me to stretch my legs after the long flight). Obviously the practicality of this depends on a few things such as whether you have a Schengen visa and whether your baggage is checked through to you final destination (I'm assuming it will be, but even if it isn't you could always check it into the left luggage for a day). Still, it's very 'doable' and worth considering. Hope this helps. Regards Cathy

Sorry, should have added that I've flown Business Class in the Airbus 380 a couple of times (both Johannesburg - Paris return). I found it pretty comfortable and was able to get about six hours sleep.

if you were in transit at CDG with two long-haul flights (B777+A380) you probably arrive and leave from 2E, business lounge is at lower floor, it's not well signed, look for the elevator on the right having the gates on the back, before the exit. It's not bad there, anyway I'm not sure you'll be able to sleep in the morning even you got one of the deckchair sofas, it uses to be very noise there in the morning. if you're next flight it's not an intercontinental one you should change terminal, if 2A you will be not able to sleep for sure. Espace Affairs Business Class, I'm say for B777, is not like it used to be in the past, but still quite good, you'll be able to sleep and I suggest to try as you'll arrive at the time you'll usually are going to bed or just started sleeping, the day is long.

ahh reading so much several screens forgot about the lounge question. I dont rest there of course its my starting point lol! , but have access to the lounge on my pass, and it looks great. If you need special service book online for 30 euros fee or contact for more info email Nadia.Kalinski@adp.fr just news from my blog there will be a new terminal 4 at CDG to accomm 7 A380 at one time. there will be a gallery to T2E with shops and restos, and a metro run all due for next summer. Right now international flights are landing at 2E with Schengen been at 2F and 2G. FYI

If you fly via Business Calss from the USA chances are you will have a flat bed seat. That allows a decent few hours of sleep. After you arrive in Paris, I would head out to the city via the Metro and see parts of Paris for a few hours before heading back to CDG. You would have an easy 6 hours to spend in Paris during the day time. I flew to Paris via coach years ago and did the day trip to Paris and back to the airport and had no issues. Got sleep on the next flight out of Paris. The lounge I was able to get into (forget which one at CDG) was nothing special, if anything it was bland for Paris. As for the time in Paris, you can go to the Lourve or Eifel tower for the day and enjoy the sites nearby those areas. Easy transport to and from the airport to either one via the metro.

Thank-you all for the replies. It sounds like the flight should be comfortable so maybe I will do some sightseeing rather than just hanging out at the airport. I'm used to working a quite irregular schedule so can sleep almost anywhere though previous trips to South Africa with 16 hours straight over the big pond in economy class on South African Airways tested my sleeping talents greatly. I've been studying French on my own for several years now; actually long before I knew I would be flying into Paris so I guess I'll get a chance to use it for better or for worse.
