Things a 10 year old should not miss

by pippap Online Now Mar 18, 2008 at 1:12 AM

We're going to Paris next week and I wondered if anyone had tips for things our ten year old daughter should definitely do (aside from the usual Eiffel Tower, Bateau Mouche, Notre Dame, Sacré Coeur, etc.)while she's there please.
Also, any fab family-friendly restaurant tips please?

Take her to Moumarte, its an artist hangout on a hill on top of the city, there is a nice chapel there to see, a lot of cafés with really yummy crepes, and if you want there are artists which do portraits too if you want to get one done hehe

To add to helloworldbea's reply: That's Montmartre (not Moumatre) and the chapel she refers to is Sacré Coeur.

I always liked the colourful sculptures next to Centre Pompidou with the fountains.

Paris for kids, have a look here: en.parisinfo.com/shows-exhib...

You have good suggestions before me. Our experience with a 10 yr old(boy) was: 1) The louvre is full of lots of things besides paintings (he stood in front of the"cool" Mona Lisa for 10 minutes just staring). 2) The river is up at this time and the Batobus may not be running but it may be a good look at things as well as a way to go besides the Metro.3) If your child has never been in a Metro stand in the 1st car at the front and look at the tracks). 4) Get to the Eiffel Tower before it opens when the line is shortest. How will you know what you are looking at? Going to the upper level is only for the "thrill", the jets fly higher than that. If you cannot get there early forget it. Go to the Arc de Triomphe and go up it for the view of Paris. 5) A day out of Paris. Our #1 is Chartres, even before Versailles, but again it depends upon your child. He fell in love with "the greatest Cathedral in the World". If you go to V. get out to the Hameau--do NOT go with a tour!!! read up un how to do it painlessly with tickets in advance (ditto the Louvre). 6) Immediately buy Rick Steves "Mona Winks". 7) There are puppet shows in some parks (maybe near where you are staying, like the Luxembourg Gardens, itself worth a visit) but someone else will have to direct you (they are in French but they are slap-stick)
