Where do the artists living on a tight budget congregate in Paris? I thought it was Montmarte. Am I wrong? I want to live and work there. Is there a part of the city that has art galleries for new work. Thank you.
Montmartre has some (if not a lot), Notre Dame and the Pont des Arts are popular places where amateur art is on display. As to where they congregate, if they are poor then they can't afford the city center, so they probably come in from the outskirts. The subways are also sometimes used for amateur displays (musical and artistic).

At Montmartre you must fight with the terrasses of the Cafes. I suggest the court in front of Centre Georges Pompidou.
