Where in Paris was this photo taken?

by dodgeyou Online Now Mar 16, 2013 at 4:01 PM

It is the photo I have for my profile pic. I can't load the full photo on this forum, but I can send it to anyone that can help. I know it's in front of the Eiffel Tower. I'm looking for the exact location. The photo is of my girlfriend's grandparents...taken years ago. I want to propose to her in the exact same spot. Can someone help me?

I would say it's on the bridge called Pont d'Iéna.

Thank you. Is that a very long bridge? Would you say it is about halfway down the bridge, on the right side of the bridge if I were facing the Tower?

I'm guessing it's from a point on the Parc du Champ de Mars lawns in front of the Eiffel.

I agree. If you look up Eifel Tower, Paris in googlemaps and turn on Street View, it may look like they're just about halfway the bridge.

Also, someone else told me it was taken from Trocadero? Thoughts?

Parc du Champ de Mars lawns? Is that a bridge? I think it's pretty clear they are on a bridge.

No, definitely not. Too far. I've stood on that bridge for quite a while, wanting to make a photo of a particular car passing by the Eifel tower.

Oops - just took a closer look and it does appear to be from Pont d'Iéna. The photo was discolored so I thought they were standing on green instead of pavement.

I was agreeing with Nemorino about Pont d'Iéna.

Wow...you guys are great and quick too! I thought this would take a week or so to narrow down. For a closer look, here's a bigger pic:

Yes, it’s on the right side of the bridge as you face the tower. I think it must be fairly close to the right bank of the Seine, otherwise we wouldn’t see so much of the tower. (I imagine the photographer was crouching to get the whole tower into the picture.)

Note the guy selling tacky souvenirs on the sidewalk, in the lower right-hand corner of the photo.

On the other side of the street, one of the four sculptures is visible, above the black car. I think it must be the one of the Gallic warrior.

Pont d'Iéna, I agree. I recognise the lamp posts. :) The couple in the photo are facing the Left Bank (Tour Eiffel, Champ de Mars), with their back to the Trocadéro (on Right Bank.) They probably were coming "from" the Trocadéro... Good thing for their photo that the sidewalks are so large because car traffic on the Pont d'Iéna is very dense (as on many other bridges.)

I have photos of the Bir-Hakeim Bridge (one attached), next after Pont d'Iéna down the Seine, and the Eiffel Tower is obviously not at the end of it. I took my photo walking to Passy, from the Eiffel Tower area.

Thanks for this question, I love the bridges over the Seine! You chose a romantic spot to propose, in every way! All the best.

I'm sure she'll say yes - after all, it's Paris, and how could she resist such a thoughtfully planned proposal??

    Congratulations in advance! :O)

paul, but of course! thanks!  I shouldn't even *try* to explain the gymnastics my brain did when I wrote that last night...  A burst of romanticism, fed by my dreamy state when crossing the Seine on Pont Bir-Hakeim recently. The pleasure of seeing La Vieille Dame appear in full grandeur, calling all attention... etc., etc., etc.

I imagined they had the same emotion and turned around a second, to bring la Tour Eiffel in the pic with them. Sorry for my distraction!

Ha ha ha! I almost mentioned the fact that I drank Passion Fruit juice all last night, even at dinner, since I'd just returned from a short trip and had not a drop of wine in the house! It travelled with me, as usual, and I left it behind, as usual...
It was simply my flighty, whimsical nature wanting to be let out!
    gotta go the the parade!!!

This is pont d'Iena. Right side of the bridge facing the tower. I'd guess the 4th or 5th lightpost counting from the side furthest away from the tower.
