We are in Papeete via cruise ship. Is there a bank ATM near the cruise ship dock? Which one and where is it? Also how would we easily get to Moorea to the Hilton hotel from Papeete. Is the ferry the easiest? Could you point me to a site that would give times and costs? Are there taxis waiting at the ferry dock in Moorea to get to the Hilton? I am mostly concerned about getting the local currency that I would need for ferry and taxi- the exchange rate in the US stinks to get it before leaving, so I hoped to get it easily when we get off the ship. Thanks in advance for the input
If you arrive at Papeete airport the easiest way to get to Moorea is by airplane, of course, as you do not have to leave the terminal building and save the money for a taxi or shuttle van to the port which is next to the city centre. There are ATM's in the airport terminal and along Boulevard Pomare in the city. For my bank card not all ATM's worked but Banque Socredo always worked fine. Yes, there are taxis waiting at the ferry dock in Moorea. But best you check with the Hilton if there is not any pick-up service. I saw pick-up services there, so the Hilton as one of the leading hotel brands might have it, too. Taxis are hugely expensive in French Polynesia, and the Hilton is about 16 to 20 km from the ferry terminal in Vaiare. There might be buses waiting for pedestrians but with luggage it might not be a great option, and last time I was there I did not really notice them because I was looking for my pick-up. I used South Pacific Transport in Papeete. This is a shuttle service (vans) and a bit cheaper. Airplanes leave nearly hourly but flights are much dearer than the ferry. The airport is several kilometres closer to the Hilton than the ferry terminal. You would normally use the Aremiti ferry to get to Moorea. You have to check in 30 min before departure.
