We are in Bandung for 1 full day of shopping and have never been there before. Any suggestions of the best places to buy shoes, men business shirts, jeans etc. Are larger sizes readily avaiable. Thanks
I am going to Bali for 2 weeks in September. I am a mature single female travelling along. I'd like to stay in 3 or 4 places while I'm there--I'd like to see some culture and religious temples, but would like to spend 4-5 days at the beach. I'm considering Amed (Eka Purnama cottages), maybe Sideman, Ubud, perhaps Sideman. I am a little concerned about getting around. Could someone let me know whether the places I've chosen work to show Balinese culture, with some beach? And can I get around between them pretty easily. Grateful for any answers--there are just so many possible places to go. Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a good english speaking guide/driver for trips to Borobudur and Prambanan and any other recommendations like stop off on the way there or back?

Hi everyone,
I am looking for some advice regarding how best for me and my girlfriend to get around Java in July. We land in Jakarta and will be travelling through Java and ending up in Bali (just started looking at the route but thinking of a lot of places, for example the first part of the route we'll go through Bogor, Cipanas, Bandung, Garut, Kampung Naga and Panagdaran and we know we want to visit Yogyakarta). We have about 9 days to get to Bali so will not have time to stay over in each of the places..
The question is what's the best way to travel? We want to maintain flexibility as our route/timings won't be exactly planned out. Options I'm thinking of are 1) hire a car with sat nav but is it safe in terms of road quality and car jacking type issues, 2) hire a car with sat nav and driver, but this is a long trip so is this possible, how would it work for the driver's accommodation etc. and can it be booked in advance, 3) use taxis as and when we need to travel but I guess this would be an expensive option and are taxis easy to get hold of across Java, or 4) any better ideas?
Any advice much appreciated.
Many thanks
Adam
We are a retired couple and plan to visit Jakarta for 3 days as part of a 2 week stay in Java in July, 2013. I understand this is within the Ramada month. We will be flying in and out of Jakarta. Is staying at the Akmani Hotel in Tanah Abang going to be a problem in terms of touring, dining out and shopping during that time? We will be booking bus day tours and will also want to do some shopping for sports shoes. We also want to walk to restaurants. We will also be going by train to Bandung. Is there any advantage in terms of accessiblity and security, if we book at the Novotel in Mangga Dua or Alila Hotel?
Hi, are the shops and factory outlets open on 24th and 25th december?

Hi, will be visiting Yogyakarta on June16-18 but june17th will be our only full day. Will be doing a sunrise tour of Borobodur that day and for the rest of the day it's either we do the Merapi 4WD tour or Caving in Jomblang. I've seen photos of Jomblang with the sunlight passing through and it's just amazing. However, Merapi by 4WD looks interesting also. Please help me decide which one to choose!
We want to travel in Java via train (executive class) , however we will have a large suitcase (22 kgs), can we take this on the train where it is within our eyesight (for security reasons).
