Transportation to Bocas

Hi all. What are the road options for getting up to Bocas del Toros? Bus, private collectivos or rental? Rental I figure isnt the best as you probably dont bring it out to the islands. What port do you go into to take a boat across to the island? How long is the drive? Thanks
