Hi - Is the train station close to the centre of the city in Palmerston North? Also, can I use my Australian seniors card for cheaper fares etc or as I am still a NZ citizen could I perhaps register for a local card?
The Palmy train station is in Matthews Ave, near Coronation Park. tranzscenic.co.nz/inner/dire... Sorry I don't know about the seniors card, i'll call them and ask.

I just called them and he said the Akld - Wellington route is only for "Super Gold" card holders. He said some of the Sth Island services don't require that, but not all.

For getting free discounts and concessions with the SuperGold Card in NZ you have to be a New Zealand resident aged over 65 OR - if you are under 65 - you have to receive NZ Superannuation. (Don't think you get a Veteran's Pension ;-) So it is not sufficient to be a citizen. Only residents get the card. More info here: supergold.govt.nz/about-the-...
