have read many horror stories online of car hire in Sicily and so wanted to choose more reputable brands such as Avis or Hertz. However we need a 6 seater and the only operators to offer those at Palermo Airport are Thrifty or Maggiore both of whom have some awful reviews - anyone out there recently hired with Thrifty or Maggiore at Palermo airport - what was your experience?
Many thanks
We will be arriving at Palermo airport on 23 May and need to get to Delfino Beach Hotel in Marsala. Taxis appear very expensive. Can we get there by bus or shared shuttle service?

Hello, we (two) arrive in Palermo airport on the 23rd May 2013 from Dublin. The scheduled arrival time is 22:30. There is no public transport at this time and taxis are expensive (from 80 euros upwards). Does anyone want to share a taxi or possibly a car hire to Trapani (70kilomotres)? Tony and Marian

Hello everyone!! This, 7.10 - 14.10 will be my 4th visit to Italy. We'are young couple, arriving at Palermo airport on Sunday, OCT 7th at 21:30 We have several plans: 1) To spend couple days on the beach in order to swim and enjoy the meditarranean Sea( It's possible in Turkey in October so I assume it's also possible in Sicily since they lie on the same distance from equator) 2) To enjoy nightlife of Big City ( Palermo) 3) A trip to ETNA 4) Visit other smaller beatiful Italian cities and towns. The first point is very important!!! While the second is less important! What would be a-not-really expensive way to plan our trip? Is it better to hire a car ( 120 EUR / 6 days if we're talking about A-class) or use public transport? Where to stay, and where can we find a decent beach that would be secure. ( I googled there are plenty of public beaches few kilometers from Palermo, but which are the best? ) How to plan a trip to Etna, is it better to go by car, or bus ( or excursion) does this trip include visiting the crater? Which cities in Sicily would you recommend us to visit (we have just very basic knowledge of Sicilian history )\ Thank you in advance!!!
I want to travel from Palermo airport on sunday 12th Aug to Partinio. for some reason Car hire has more than quadrupled. is there a train or bus as i cannot find any info on the net.
Hello, my group of 6 will be flying into Palermo, arriving around 10 o clock at night. Our departing flight from Palermo back to the mainland is at 7 o clock in the morning. I figure we should stay in an area that has easy access to the airport, but I'd also like to still stay somewhere pleasant and safe. I vaguely remember being able to take the train from the airport to the town center, but that was 10 years ago. Can anyone suggest the best area to stay in that would be easiest to get to & from the airport? Would we be able to travel from downtown Palermo so early in the morning to catch our flight? Thank you in advance!
Hi. I'm travelling to Sicily next month, arriving in Palermo airport late in the evening (20.30). I need to travel on to Trapani that evening - anyone have any suggestions about the best way to do this? I don't think there is any public transport at that time and the private taxis are very expensive. Thanks in advance!
My husband and I are taking a first time trip to Sicily in July. We are wanting to stay in Palermo, which is nearby Capaci and Isola delle Femmine, where my grandparents are from. We then want to go to Taormina after we visit Palermo. We would love to stay somewhere on the beach or close to it. Any advice on where to stay? How about where we should eat? I'd love to be in the heart of an active/beautiful area. Thank you!
Hi!!!I will stay in Palermo the next week and I would like to visit Monreale in Sunday. IÂŽve seen in the AMAT PALERMO website that the 389 route has been canceled. Does anybody knows wich bus can I get? Thank you.
Hi, I'm considering taking a train ride into Palermo for a day trip during a visit to Sicily at the end of September. I only have 5 or 6 hours to spare, and have decided to see the Duomo, the Capo Market and a 1/2 hour guided tour of Teatro Massimo, starting at 1.40pm. I expect to arrive in Palermo aroung 1030 am from Sana Flavia, but must be back in Sana Flavia by 5.30pm at the latest. Does anybody know of anything else I can do to fill the itinerary a little more or am I being optimistic to think more is possible?
Hi all. We hope to stay in Palermo for 4 nights in October. How long should we spend in Palermo itself? Where else should we visit by train on a day trip? Grazie L
Does anyone know what the Arabic inscription from the Koran on the front of Palermo cathedral says?
this will be my first trip to Sicily, I am traveling to palermo in may,can anyone help me, can i get from palermo to segesta by local train? also want to make a day trip to mt. etna, are there trains to the site. I have found that the local private tours are pricey and would like to avoid if possible. thanks
Hi, this might be a dumb question but I have searched the internet and I can't seem to find any recent information that confirms whether there is a train that leaves DIRECTLY from the Palermo airport (not from NEAR the airport) and goes directly into the center/downtown Palermo. If someone could please confirm (and if there is a website with schedules/times, that would be great too), I would really appreciate it!!! Many thanks!! :)

Hi, I'm travelling with my wife to Santa Flavia/Sicilia next May, but have come across a rather annoying stumbling block. We want to fly from the UK directly to Palermo, but neither of us relish the idea of flying with Ryanair or Easyjet (quite franly, we'd rather walk). Alitalia does have flights via Rome, and if push comes to shove, we'll use this service. I've looked everywhere for direct flights, but have drawn a blank. Does anybody know of any airlines operating from the UK into Palermo other than the ones I've mentioned? I don't hold much hope, but thought it was worth asking.
Hi, I am moving to Sicily soon, province of Agrigento. Any traveller who would like to make friends, to meet to chat and show me around the country and countryside there? Thanks!
I will be traveling to the Palermo area in the next two months. I will have a rental car with me, and hope to find public transportation to take me into the city center so I don't have to drive in. I am looking for a nice B&B that has a place to park my rental car. I have attempted to contact the B&B that The Wandering Camel stayed at, but they have yet to respond to my e-mail. I am getting a little worried as time is growing shorter towards my departure. Mostly, I am concerned about a clean room not too far outside the city center.
