Hi everyone, I want to travel to Pakistan this june-july, for touristic purposes. I would like to visit Gilgit to as it's one of the main places on KKH. I'd like to ask You about some up to date information about the current safety situation in Gilgit and the surrounding areas? Also, if you have any other useful advice like places to stay, I would be happy to hear it :) Thank You very much for any reply :-)
There was some unrest in Gilgit Biltistan region last month. But situation is under control now. Peace restoration has been started. Hopefully it will be totally clear till the end of this month. Other tourist spots in Northern Area like Skardu, Chitral, Swat, Kaghan, Chillas etc. are safe.

KKH and Gilgit are usually considered safe for traveling in Pakistan as it is away from the troubled parts. There is almost no history of hostilities against foreign travelers in this region and in fact the rate of opportunistic crime - theft ect - is also very low. People are hospitable, friendly, and use-to of tourists/travelers. On the flip side, there was a recent series of unfortunate sectarian violence in the area, which is an indigenous problem with some historical roots. Those events were bloody and really sad, I must say. Later on security forces took control and now the situation is almost calmed down. Even in these turbulent conditions there was absolutely no hostilities reported against foreign travelers except for the inconvenience. In fact Pakistani government ensured swift evacuation of tourists from the troubled areas.

Bonjour mes amis, Things are calm in Gilgit at the moment. Do visit Nanga Parbat Base camp (Fairy Meadows) It's a 3 days trip to the base camp, some 4 hrs drive from Gilgit to Raikot bridge and then 1.5 hr drive to Jhel and then the trek begins, easy trek but pretty scenic. NATCO runs buses from Islamabad to Gilgit, 20 hrs drive on KKH. In Gilgit Stay at Hotel Tourist Cottage Park Hotel You can visit Chitral, there is a bus to Mastuj across Shandoor pass, overnight at Mastuj You may stay at Tourist Garden Next day 3 hrs drive to Chitral and then Kalash valleys. In Chitral you may stay at Hotel Al-Farooq Bon voyage ..
