4 days Ilocos tour

by mapa1028 Online Now Apr 8, 2011 at 5:03 PM

Hello Everyone! We are planning to have a vacation in Ilocos this comming July or August probably going there by bus from Manila. My fiancee and I we're thinking of visiting Pagudpud, Laoag and Vigan. I already searched the net for possible accommodation for us to stay. I am considering staying at Evangeline Beach Resort in Pagudpud because of their romance package which includes room accommodation for 2, half day pagudpud tour, 3 set meals for 2 (breakfast in bed, lunch and dinner by the beach) and body massage for 2 for only 4,700 during off season. For Laoag we plan to stay at Balay Da BLas and thinking of staying also at Grandpa's Inn in Vigan. My questions are: 1. Which place is the best for us to go 1st? which place must we stay longer? 2. How long it will take us to tour around Laoag and Vigan? 3. Is it possible to cover Laoag and Vigan in one day? 4. Is it advisable to hire a car/van for our tour around Laoag and Vigan? If yes, How much it cost? Can anyone refer car for hire. Your answers, advice and suggestions are welcome and will be of great help. Thank you so much in Advance!

since your going by bus- this is great because you will have a good catch for visiting ilocos Sur and Vigan as well. First, since you will be staying in Pagudpud, might as well start from there and then, coming back to Laoag, Batac, Currimao so that will cover up your 2 days tour in Ilocos Norte. From Laoag, i think 2-3 hours car drive will be needed going to Pagudpud... unless, you are a beach fanatic, you might extend for 3 days of stay in this region. You will be amazed that in this region, there are alot of new resorts with good services. 2- 3rd question- dont go mixing up Vigan to Laoag tour, otherwise, you will get old in travelling. that is why- you have to start from the fartest (which is Ilocos Norte first)intead when coming back from Ilocos Norte, that is the time of exploring Ilocos Sur, and thats Vigan... 4- hiring a private car/van is a yes, but be prepared for the high cost, like some will charge for 3K-4K pesos for a day plus petrol. food not included. Car rentals is a good one, but i prefer sometimes to be-friend taxi drivers- just go for a friendly talk with them and discuss your ilocos region tour itinerary, but dont discuss other than what's in it. dont worry, my moms a true blooded ilocana and we've been there almost every summer. for more tips email me: annesophia_santos@yahoo.com

hi additional to what i replied; when going to Ilocos Norte coming from Manila. Trip usually lasts 9-10 hours drive (inlcuding the stop-overs) and from Ilocos Norte going to Baguio- usually 4-5 hours loooong drive... Manila-> Pampanga-> Tarlac-> La Union-> Ilocos Sur-> and finally Ilocos Norte this should be your route going to Pagudpud. Once in La Union- you can also find your way up to Baguio roughly 2 hours and stay there, hotels would sometimes costs you 2500pesos per night. I would suggest you stay near to SM mall so you wont have problems with foods and all, theres one hotel down from SM, i forgot the name of the hotel- NEVER go for old hotels there- old ones stinks! a day of stay in Baguio is good. Better move on after spending a night only because of the heavy pollotion, traffic ive encountered, and the highly populated place. (sori Baguio people)

You only have 4 days so that don't leave you much of a choice on where you will stay longer. Is that including travel time? My suggestion is start with Pagudpud since this is the farthest. I never heard of the place you chose but that rate is very low. :) Is this in Saud? So take it. Just make sure to ask what is in the half day Pagudpud tour. I hope that it includes Patapat, Pannzian and Blue Lagoon. Since its low season, maybe they will be gracious enough to include the Bangui windmills since it is not so far from Pagudpud. You cannot combine Laoag and Vigan in 1 day. It is an injustice to Vigan. :) Vigan deserve 1 whole day to go around in a calesa. Maybe you can rent a car or get a taxi (if there is any) to bring you from Laoag to Vigan. This way, you can ask for a stopover in Malacanang and Paoay Church. You can skip Currimao unless you are planning on spending a night in the pricey resorts there like Playa Tropical or Sitio Remedios.

My friend and I were there last week. We had so much fun. There are to areas for the sightseeing but it is better to start from the Northbound area to Southbound area of Pagudpud so nothing you gonna miss good destinations for the sight seeing... For the number 2 question, we finished our tour for one day in each place (Vigan and Laoag). It depends on how long you will stay in each destinations. From Vigan to Laoag, it would take 2 hours travel or more depending on the bus you're going to take. In pagudpud, Rent a van would cost 4 times than hiring a tricycle. Van would cost P5,000 touring around Pagudpud since the destinations are really far... while hiring a tricycle would cost P600 in each area (northbound area and southbound area). When we were there we hired Mr. Lee Molina who owns a pink tricyle with mobile number 0929 - 8138 352. You can hire him too if you want. He is very helpful, very kind and very hospitable too.. He can help you answer your questions about Pagudpud in where to stay and what to do first.

Hi there! ANSWER Q#1: In my opinion since you are coming from Manila by bus, I suggest that you start first in Vigan because it is the nearest to Manila. The places to see in Vigan are quited limited to the ancestral houses and some museums so if you're not really into this kind of stuff, I think a day tour could cover it and the rest of the day you could spend in your hotel because it will be a very long commute.Secondly, I'm not sure about Laoag. You might want to see Pauiay and Batac to see the church and Marcos Museum but I'm not really sure about Laoag, what is in there? Third, I'm voting for Pagudpod for you to stay longer because there are a lot of places to see there especially if you're a beach person. ANS TO Q#2&3 : The distance between Vigan and Laoag is really far like 2-3 hours drive so I think just driving to and from will eat up your whole day. How about stay in Vigan for 1 day and then when going to Laoag stop by the places that I mentioned earlier like Batac-for the Marcos Museum and then Pauiay so that you'll get most out of the road trip. ANS TO Q#4 : This I cannot help you with hehehe. It is really advisable to rent a car actually, why not rent the car from Manila and tour with it in Ilocos?

hi i've heard of that resort although m not sure about the package, it's quite ok though. grandpa#s inn in vigan is a nice place to stay ( just a few steps away from the heritage village, plaza burgos and the cathedral) for q1 better go to the farhest first in pagudpud, then laoag, finally vigan. since in vigan u will not worry much about trips going back to manila. q2 for your vigan tour consider 1 whole day for that (consider the calesa ride- tours u to all the must see places in vigan, u can make arrangements for calesa tour if u are going to stay in grandpa's, they can arrange the calesa tour 4u. q3 laoag to vigan takes about 1.5 to 2 hours by bus, 1 day is not enough to tour the 2 places q4 if u are considering the calesa tour in vigan u dont really need to hire a car anymore since it will take u to all the must see places in vigan already including baluarte it just cost 150 per hour. tour lasts from 2-4 hours depending how long u stay in each place. in pagudpud and laoag i do suggest u should have a vehicle since the places are quite far. for pagudpud/laoag/vigan tours u can contact kuya lee he was our tour guide in pagudpud he also does laoag and vigan tours 09298138352 njoy ur trip
