I hear Oxford can become quite crowded. Is there a particular time of the year Oxford considers an "off season" (sometime when it is less crowded)?
We, two teachers from the Netherlands, are planning a schooltrip to Oxford->Hastings. We're staying in Oxford for 2 days one day we can fill easily ofcourse but were looking to visit some things in the neighbourhood with our students. Does anyone have any suggestions of place to visit with a large group of students ages 14-15? Thanks in advance
Hullo there, I'm planning a trip to England between xmas and new year's day. I would like to visit Oxford but I'm afraid that during those days everything will be closed. I mean: university, literary tours, etc. What do you think about it? Is it worth a try or is it better to re-plan (maybe during easter holidays)? Thank you.
Hi, I'm going for a few days to Oxford and would like to stay in a hotel which is in the city centre or is easy to travel to by foot/short bus trip etc. I saw holiday inn, but is that actualy in town or is it difficult to travel to from the train station? And could you also recommend what are 4 or 5 "must see" places when visiting Oxford. Meuseums old architecture....whatever anything interesting really. Thanks :)
Hi, I intend to rent out a car from Hertz in Oxfordshire..... I have never driven abroad and hence have a few queries 1) What does the term "unlimited miles included" mean? Also, what all forms of "insurance" or "additions" are a must to be safe (the website lists a huge range of can-be-chosen-inclusions) 2) How far is this place "Osney Mead - Ferry Hinskey Road" from the centre of Oxford town or Oxford Railway Station? 3) Whereas where we live, parking is not very heavily regulated & One can always find a familiar road or a parking lot to push the car into; however, in a place like London I am sure this would not at all be the case. However, in these small towns, like Chipping Camden or Bourton on the water or the Slaughters is parking regulated extensively and what does one do in case one doesn't know of parking spaces..... Also, is it a crime to just park by the roadside when one travels from a village to another Please help... As this will form the basis of my decision to drive or take the bus... Cheers Francis
Hi all, I know it's not really a "travel question", but I am starting a job in Oxford in three months and 'm planning to visit from New York for a few days to do some preliminary apartment hunting. My question is: how do real estate agents operate in Oxford (and, I guess, in the UK in general)? Is it like in the US, where you hire an agent and he/she searches for an apartment for you from all available sources, explains the process, helps with paperwork and, then, takes a 1 month commission? Or is it that the agent is solely a representative of his agency and shows you only those apartments which his agency is listing? I've emailed a couple of agents but they were sort of unclear. My web searches also didn't help much. If anyone has had experience in this department or can point me to a good website I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

My brother is trying to get into Oxford this summer, but his dates fall right near the beginning of the Olympics and plane prices to London from Toronto are insane! We have low-cost flights from Toronto to Manchester (and then he'd have a 3-hour train ride--not bad for a Canuck), and I've also suggested he check flights into Cardiff. So my question is: Is there any other major airport hub around Oxford he should be looking at? Maybe he could fly from Toronto to Ireland or something and then onto cheaper carrier to a smaller English town? Any ideas? I really don't know all the airports in the area.
I plan to do Bath and Oxford in a day. Is this possible ? How do I get from Bath to Oxford ? Is there a direct train ?

What cam people tell me about the area. Is there anywhere I should avoid? I want to be in good reach of shops, bars, nice places to eat. I'd appreciate any help. I don't know anyone in Oxford! I'm planning to arrive in Oxford at 10:18. Then I want to take a cruise boat at 11:00 at 'No. 1 Folly Bridge', Folly Bridge, Oxford, OX1 4LB. I looked at the map and it seemed to me that I can easily walk from the station and it may take 20 minutes. But they suggest that I should take a taxi. Is it right?

I'm considering my first trip to Oxford at the beginning of May, and I have a couple basic questions: 1) If I have only 1 day to visit (from noon Saturday until about 4 pm Sunday), what part of the City would be the most practical for seeing the sights? 2) What hotels in that area would you suggest? Cost is less an issue than comfort. Thanks for your suggestions. Dave
Does anyone know if the English concession travel card can be used on the Oxford Park and Ride bus?
I'm going to spend the day in Oxford, see the colleges and other sites. Parking will be very expensive I think. Is there any free street parking that would be convenient?
Is there a Public Footpath connecting Abingdon Road to the River Thames coming out opposite Iffley Lock. I thought there used to be one adjacent to the "old infections" hospital.
I'm planning a one-night stay in both oxford and cambridge as side-trips for a London visit. Is a one-night stay enough to gain a decent appreciation of each town? Or would I be better off canceling one side-trip and extending my stay at the other town?
is it the same thing with Oxford? should I visit some other time?
Why is Virtual Tourist still presenting out of date reviews about this pub whose internal ambiance and menu and character changed radically in 2007?
I've just moved to Oxford and my contact list is about as long as my pinky finger. Any locals here interested in meeting up for a beverage of sorts? I am here for a good long while and that good long while is filled with sweet nothings so...my schedule is flexible. Let's hang out! :)
I'd like to spend a weekend in Oxford in June but can't find any budget accommodation. Are there any cheap (around £50) B & B's, preferably walking distance to the train station? Everywhere I've found is quite expensive and all the hostels seem to only have dorm rooms rather than doubles. Any ideas or do I need to forget about going to Oxford?
