by cutie-pie Online Now Aug 6, 2008 at 9:13 PM

Is there anywhere near Ouro Preto to go white water rafting? If not, where is the closest city/area to Ouro Preto to do so? Thanks!

    maybe...
    full day rafting trip in Itatiaia National Park from Itamonte, south from Sao Joao del Rey
    try this outfittter: privatetours.com.br/itatiaia...

    I would also check with the tourism agency in Ouro Preto (they were pretty helpful) and maybe the university (which may have a student sports club).

    I'm not a practitioner rafting athlete and using Internet search I found some raft places at Minas Gerais state.
    * Itamonte (Rio Auruoca and Capivari)
    * Piranga (Rio Piranga)

    piranga.com.br/chegando/inde...

    http://www.piranga.com.br/

    aventur.com.br/site/rafting/...

    O principal formador do rio Doce é o rio Piranga, cuja nascente localiza-se na Serra da Mantiqueira, no município de Ressaquinha, Minas Gerais. No município de Santa Cruz do Escalvado, ao receber as águas do Rio do Carmo, o Rio Piranga passa a se chamar Rio Doce.

    I believe Piranga is the closest site from Ouro Preto but nothing shall I tell about river quality current. I never been there. I wish the second good luck!
