I know it largely depends on the individual, but what is the average time one really needs to do both Auschwitz and Birkineau?
with our guide, once we were there, our tour of both places took about 4 hrs, possibly a little more????

At least one full day. The site is huge, emotions will overwhelm you and you'll need your time to deal with them. More, the two camps are not really close to each other, so you'll have to walk for a while or get a taxi/bus. Anyway, wear comfortable shoes>: you'll walk a lot. cheers gmg

I would recommend to devote half a day, with some transport time including, preferably, starting in the morning.
