According to the museum, children should be at least 14 years old. I would like to add that you should give them an idea on what to expect, a brief lesson in history, before you actually go there with the kids.

I think that is a very sensible minimum age. And yes, you do need to do a great deal of talking beforehand, and preferably get some books to share with them. There is no point in them visiting if they do not have at least some understanding of what they see, and its implications. It would also be sensible to prepare them for the possibility of seing other visitors obviously upset, something which may occur and which children and young people often find difficult to deal with.
