umeda or namba

by madame_jas Online Now Feb 28, 2011 at 11:41 PM

Where is it better to stay? I prefer an area that has a lot of restaurants, shopping areas and convenience stores. I asked many people and they said both areas are good. I have been to Tokyo, which areas do these two places compare to? I want something very similar to Shinjuku and Shibuya. Which hotels are good? I read Hearton Hotel is good while I am considering ANA Crowne Plaza in Umeda since I have a discount for the Intercon Hotels Group. Thanks!

Umeda is the business district so it's more expensive. Namba is the evening entertainment area. If you want Shinjuku then pick Umeda, but I think Shinsaibashi (Namba) would be more fun. Check out the map around Hotel Nikko Osaka to get an idea.

Umeda for departmental store shopping. Hotel Granvia Osaka and Isetan within the same building. Isetan department stores has occupies 15 floor. Almost everything is there. See my review of shopping under the Osaka webpage.

Umeda is better connected, so if you will be going to a lot of places in the city and want the most convenient place, I would choose Umeda. Nanba is more lively and interesting, in my opinion. It' a great evening destination. If you are interested in it, I would suggest staying in Umeda and just visiting Nanba but ti is up to you. Since you have a hotel discount in Umeda, that would be perfect!
