Orlando/Miami flight from UK (July 2013) - Charter or Scheduled flight?

by YOUNGMML Online Now Jul 4, 2012 at 3:00 PM

At the risk of asking a mundane question, I want to kick off holiday planning for a family holiday (July 2013) by booking flights a.s.a.p. Knowing that this is the most expensive element of the holiday, I want to get the best deal possible. Q1. Is this more likely via a charted flight or scheduled flight? I was also considering a Miami arrival, as an alternative to Orlando,to taste the sights and sounds of that area for a few nights before embarking on the Orlando experience. Q2. I wonder if that destination airport increases my chances of decent trans-atlantic flight prices.

We went way back in 1992 so I am certainly not current but I suspect that theme park tickets are a good part of the total spend! We actually booked a Fly-Drive package and then added the hotel with the same company. We had a choice between BA holidays and Virgin at that time and although the BA flights were slightly dearer for adults, the free child place worked-out better. BA was scheduled, Virgin was a charter back then. At that time both flew from Gatwick rather than our preferred BHX (as the latter involved a change in Bangor and added a lot to the journey time) Although the flights can be expensive, booking the car/hotel as well as the flight as a package may well work out better. Also, staying on International Drive or in Kissimee works out cheaper than in the parks themselves. I am not sure about the Miami option I'm afraid.

Miami has more flights into London than Orlando, so chances of a cheaper price. also you can fly direct to Miami more often. Renting a car in Miami for the duration of your stay including Orlando, as rental cars are relatively cheap, make sure you have good insurance coverage from your home country insurance. Lot to see and do in Miami and south florida region

I made a quick search in Momondo, and against my (and cochinjew's)expectations, Orlando is slightly cheaper than Miami this month. I think that, if you find a charter then you would really save some money. My strongest impression in my first visit to USA was a strong sensation of being "out of scale" since everything is bi and far there. If it will be your first time... be prepared. As we said then, in Florida "we need a car even to cross the street". Staying in the parks is expensive, and choosing a hotel out of them may pay the indispensable rented car. We had a cheap stay in the excellent Hawthorn Suites, in International drive, and the car allowed us to visit Cape Canaveral in our way back to Miami.

nowdays is no matter, you need to do your homework on prices, try all sites. Yes when I flew from there charter flights were a lot cheaper, dont know now. Both places are nice but depending on your interest Miami is a better night spot than Orlando. And Orlando better daytime then Miami. you can look at destinations above right here for both cities and see tips by posters like us. HOpe it helps your planning

Consider flying to Orlando (MCO) from the U.K. via Dublin with Aerlingus. U.S. Customs is based in Dublin airport when you touch down in MCO you will bypass passport control to the baggage area saving you time when you're tired from the 8.5 hour flight. Youtube the following "U.S. PRE-CLEARANCE AT DUBLIN AIRPORT" enjoy your trip.
