how to go to Downtown LA?

My boyfriend and I are planning to go to Downtown LA to see movies on IMAX and also to walk around. It'll be my first time to go there because i just moved in here in OC and he is going here to visit me from NY. I currently live in Garden Grove and i don't drive a car. I only take OCTA buses and i already got a bus book but im still confused. How are we going to Downtown LA through buses or how to go to the Long Beach train station and what train color to take going to LA? and I also want to know what bus in LA should we take when we get there to go to the movie theaters? please help me thank you!

There are buses that connect from Garden Grove to downtown LA. Use http://www.metro.net/. You can enter the starting point, such as a college and say the LA city hall as a destination. Once in LA downtown you can use the dart buses to get around. Karl
