What is the best way to go from Trieste to Opatija and then back to Venice. Thinking of driving the whole way but not sure what is the most cost effective when travelling with a partner.
Last summer there was a high speed ferry from Opatija to Venice. You could take the bus from Trieste to Opatija and then the ferry to Venice.

Defintly take the bus from Trieste to Opatija (4,9 Eur + 2 Eur Reservation). check web site of Saita company or Autotrans.hr The catamaran from Opatija to Venice goes only during the summer time. So, to go back take the bus and later the train to VEnice from Trieste (7,9 EUR). Ciao

I just checked and it does not look like there will be any service by sea from Opatija to Venice this summer.
